Stop here when in Hilo. We've been here twice, both times enjoyed their one-pound Lau Lau. Lau Lau is a Hawaiian specialty you should try at least once when in Hawaii, and it's not on a lot of menus. Take advantage of this great, local diner to learn the joys of Lau Lau.

What an amazing place to have great Hawaiian food! The place was bright & airy, the service was exceptional, and the restaurant was nice & clean. I had the laulau combo with the fried rice. It was delicious and not salty at all. It was filled with fork tender beef & chicken. I will definitely come here again!

My husband had hotcakes. I had eggs, hash browns and taro corned beef hash. It was all really good!

We grabbed take out here on our way to our Airbnb after a super long travel day. I got the fish of the day which was Ono and my husband got the yakitori chicken. I wanted to try the chicken lau lau but they ran out. Both were super bland, edible only because we were starving. I would not go back here.

Stopped for a quick bite on our way through town. It was recommended by someone local in town and was relatively busy, so we were hopeful. Service was good, but the food was not. We ordered chicken katsu, yakatori chicken, a chicken cutlet, and a loco moco bowl, and we wouldn't recommend any of it. The chicken was rubbery, the mac salad was nothing to write home about, and the gravy was cold and gelatinous. The fries tasted like a combination of meat, making us think the oil hasn't been changed in awhile. Our order also got messed up due to some miscommunications, and though we appreciate that the waitress fixes it, it was complicated. Overall, not a stop we'd make again.

I dined here for lunch after driving from Kona to Hilo and it was wonderful. Service was fast and we were seated immediately. The tables are just a bit too close to each other so it got a little tight. I tried the 1lb laulau which was tasty. The pork was well cooked but the chunk was so big that I didn't feel that the flavor was even throughout the whole thing. I also prefer if the meat was a bit more soft. They had many other good dishes like saimin and donburi. I also had the lilikoi cheesecake which is handsdown THE BEST I've ever had on the island. It was amazing!!! I wanted to buy more for the drive home.

Really wanted loco moco so gave this place a shot. Nice table service, very fast and attentive. Atmosphere is good, very clean, kind of Dennys layout. Booths and tables. Food was great. Got clsssic loco with fried rice. Rice on its own was good, lots pieces of ham. Rest came out nice and hot.. Good flavors. Reasonable prices especially for table service.

I placed an order for takeout food which included my request for Tabasco sauce, soy sauce, and utensils. However, to my disappointment, my order arrived without any of these items. I immediately notified the staff member who took my order, requesting that I be provided with utensils. She promptly returned with the utensils. However, upon opening the food, I discovered that the fish was undercooked, which left me feeling quite frustrated and disappointed.

Stopped for breakfast. Only negative, was served one (1) cup of coffee. Even though had the cup at tables edge. Server past several times without acknowledging. After asking and receiving check waited 15 minutes to get my change. Physically went to cashier. I think service was better at the prince kuhio mall. ..fyi..there aren't many good breakfast places in Hilo.

Kuhio Grille is one of the best eateries to try in Hilo. Food is Ono and plentiful and is paired with service with Aloha! Tons of selections and the 1lb Laulau. No can go wrong with that. Lots of Japanese food selections and local favorites. Try their special of the day you won’t be sorry. There’s a little fridge as you enter the restaurant filled with sweets and treats. If you are lucky, the custard bread pudding is a must!!! Try it warmed up with butter.
