Ok this is the first time we are trying Zippy's despite the low reviews. We saw them on Oahu but never went. Then after research this is the place for chili and rice?! Must try! So happy there was one in Hilo when we were heading back from the Volcanoes. It was Easter Sunday and no one was inside except for 2 tables. No frills dated diner decor but our server was awesome. She was so nice and friendly we loved her. We ordered chicken katsu, bacon cheeseburger, side of chili, katsu chicken/korean chicken/fried chicken plate and lilikoi drinks. Maybe we were just really hungry but the food was bomb! We killed it and enjoyed it so much we ordered an extra mini plate of the katsu chicken and korean chicken to take back with us for later. There is also a bakery case around the corner and the to go fast food side. The sweet cashier told me they don't carry all the items as the sit down side does. However, what they do have is a little cheaper. Anyhow, love Zippy's and would definitely come back again! True Hawaii Diner.

Our daughter and sister had to go here after hearing recommendations from friends. We were not disappointed! With 10 of us, we tried a variety of items. Fried chicken, spaghetti, teriyaki beef, Zippy's Samin, and coconut cake were our favorites. The waitress was so efficient - she took our orders without writing them down. We decided to ask her where the best shave ice was. She was right!Kid-friendliness: We had our four grandsons and they had a great time! They were given crayons and an activity sheet. The four old was given a much needed booster seat. They loved the spaghetti!
The auntie who greeted us at the door was great- we wish we had her as our server instead of the server named Raynette R.When your server's attitude makes you uncomfortable asking for things from them, it is an issue. It is also an issue that your staff does not have the knowledge of ingredients in an item, and does not offer to ask the kitchen for those details. Instead she rolled her eyes. Very uncomfortable experience for us patrons. Order was not complete (forgot the french toast for the french toast place), coffee was never refilled, and she just placed down the bill without a word. Horrible experience. Really wish we had another server, Raynette you either had a horrible day or it was the end of your shift, whatever your problem is- Don't put it on your customers. Wish I had spoken to a manager to show my displeasure.

Our first Zippy's and the wait staff made this a highly pleasant experience, plus the food was very good too. Korean fried chicken was delicious. Zip Pac was flavorful. Chili was surprisingly delicious and comparable to Cincinnati-style chili (aka Skyline/Gold Star).

The location is great. Right in the mall but what happened to Zippy's? The meals are expensive and just not commanding like they used to be. Lower your prices or do more discounted specials. Or both.

It is located inside Prince Kuhio Plaza near Hilo Airport and is said to be a Hawaiian restaurant.Loco Moco, Chili Moco, and Korean Fried Chicken are delicious, especially Korean Fried Chicken.
The food was not so great and the service was horrible. The only ones there were my family of 4 and maybe 1-2 other tables with people, so it was pretty slow. There was an extra 15 wait on some of the food because it wasn't available initially. The manager came out to ask if that was ok and checked to see if we wanted something else in the meantime, which I liked. The waitress didn't check up on us much, and we had to ask a number of times to have our drinks refilled. We got our food and realized she forgot to bring out all the sides we ordered. We were fine without it. Even in the end, she didn't even catch on that she had forgotten, and I asked her to remove it from our receipt. It's the only Zippy's option on the island, and it turned out to be a big bummer on my 4 day trip to Hilo.

We stopped in for a quick lunch as we were visiting some of the sites in Hilo. We wanted something different and local and came across this as we were walking through the mall. We noted it was a bit pricey but hey it's island prices. I wanted a simple lunch so I tried the saimin. I thought it was very tasty and definitely filled me up. I'd go back again.

It was very comforting to find a place to sit down and enjoy a meal after 7pm in Hilo.
