“Balai Pata is an absolute gem, and absolutely needed on North Shore / Central Maui in what’s otherwise a restaurant abyss of tourist forward formulaic burgers & fish tacos. Part of me wants to keep it a secret, but it deserves way more recognition than it has received. I’m honestly shocked it’s not packed every single night. Their innovative fusion menu is both playful and thoughtful, with fresh, farm-to-table dishes that change often enough to keep every visit exciting. The staff are the sweetest aunties, making us feel like family and doting on our toddler every time we come. Our little one (and the rest of us!) can’t get enough of their malunggay (moringa) handmade garlic noodles. No liquor license yet, so it’s BYOB, which makes for an even more relaxed, homey vibe. Easily one of our favorite spots on the island - and I’m sure it will become one of your favorites too.”

“Absolutely Unforgettable Thai Experience in Maui!

My Thai near the Maui airport completely blew us away. We tried the Thai tea, spring rolls, Thai fried rice, basil fried rice, and plain noodles for my son—and every single dish was exceptional. The flavors were so rich, balanced, and authentic that I can confidently say I’ve never tasted Thai food like this in my last 15 years.

What truly sets this place apart is not just the food, but the hospitality. The owner personally shared that some of the dishes are their own non-recipe creations, and you can genuinely taste the passion and originality in every bite.

And the coconut tapioca pudding—wow. It deserves a special mention because it was simply out of this world. One of the best desserts I’ve ever had, Thai or otherwise.

If you’re anywhere near the airport or visiting Maui, this place is an absolute must-visit. Incredible food, warm service, and a dining experience we’ll remember long after our trip. We’ll definitely be back on our next visit to Maui! 🙏🇹🇭🍽️”

“My favourite place on the island to eat, worth every penny. I daydream about it. Hot food bar with tons of vegan options (there is no meat in the store at all, it’s a vegetarian grocery story with hot food bar by weight, and a bistro with food and smoothies). “We were looking for a restaurant in Kahului for a supper prior to catching our flight home. We were lucky to find this gem! The restaurant is a small, non-assuming space in a commercial area. However, the garden eating area is nicely set up and inviting. Our hostess and serving staff were very friendly and informative. The food was excellent. I had the Rouladen and my wife had pork tenderloin Daily special. Both were good size portions and delectable. We also enjoyed an apple strudel. I would definitely return to this restaurant.”

“When we pulled up to stop for dinner before a flight, I have to confess I was not impressed. The restaurant is part of a mostly dead mall and the it had no other customers, which did not inspire a lot of confidence. I guess this was due to the fact that their liquor license expired and won’t be renewed for 2 more weeks—our server said they usually have a lively bar! Luckily, though, I didn’t trust my first impressions because we all agreed the food was actually fantastic! I got the quesabirria and really enjoyed it. The horchata was good as well. My husband enjoyed his birria chimichanga and other family members said the quesadillas and fajitas were great, also!”

“I stayed at the hotel on a business trip, dined at Rainbow Terrace restaurant for breakfast and dinner. Buffet breakfast and dinner were the buffet price excellent. The restaurant atmosphere is quiet and laid back. The restaurant staff were friendly and made sure all my drinks were kept full. If you are here on a budget, turn down your gourmet food appetite expectations. Where can you eat all you want for $17 for breakfast and dine prime rib and Chinese cuisine under $40? Nowhere. Highly recommended for business and budget travelers.”

“I'm not the type to expect miracles from an airport bar. Rays is very expensive like every other airport bar. Now that we got that out of the way... Rays was a great last stop in Maui. They have a nice local lager (Maui Brewing Bikini Blonde) on tap which was one of the more enjoyable beers I had on the island. Judging by the pour I received the taps are clean and the beer is fresh. I also got some spring rolls which were crispy and tasty. They came with a bit of greens, a tangy spicy sweet Thai sauce and some leaves of lettuce so one can make little lettuce wraps and make a crunchy deep fried snack even more crunchy. Service was friendly.”

“One of the food trucks in the Maika’i market in the Maui Mall Village and possibly my favourite meal in Maui. Food is made to order so the pork was crispy, juicy and so tender. The fresh onion, tomato, and vinegar dipping sauce balanced the pork’s richness and fattiness beautifully. The people running it are friendly and clearly care that they are serving great food. Huge portion too - it served as both lunch and dinner! Would love to go back and try more things.”

“Restaurant Matsu is a true hidden gem and now officially one of my favorite spots on Maui! It came highly recommended by locals and now I see why.

As a big fan of udon soup, I had to try theirs with the tempura vegetables, and it did not disappoint. The broth was flavorful and comforting, and the tempura was perfectly crispy. I also grabbed a spamasubi (because, of course!), and it hit all the right notes; simple, satisfying, and packed with local flavor.

The menu is full of tempting options, so it’s definitely a place I’ll be revisiting to try more. The service was friendly and efficient, which made the whole experience even better.

If you’re in Maui and looking for something casual, delicious, and local-approved, Restaurant Matsu is the place to go. Highly recommend!”

“First food on the island. The Wicked Ahi Katsu was good. I would recommend the Poke Plates though. Atmosphere was great with shade and chickens roaming. Ono Tacos was good as well. The steak tacos were alright but the chicken was much better. All around, good experience and would recommend for those looking for something close to the airport area.”

“Awesome set up and great variety of food. This is a very well organized food truck court near the airport with lots of covered tables and several food trucks to choose from. We went on a Thursday night when they have live music (Three to Five - great local band!) and enjoyed a few different dishes from Thai Mee Up and Havens. All was delicious, fairly priced and ready in a reasonable time. We thoroughly enjoyed it and will be back for sure - lots more to try!”

“My wife and I were walking to Cupies to try their food for the first time. We saw some food trucks near by and thought we would take a look see. We decided to try Da-Soriano Grindz instead of Cupies. I built my own grinds plate(hope I used the proper grammatical structure?). I chose the Chinese marinated pork belly and shrimp with salad and noodles. THE BOMB YO! BROK DA MOUT! My wife and I shared it and we were both stuffed. The location is quiet, super clean, lots of shady benches(not shady as in Slim Shady-LOL) and the small customer-only restroom was spotless. There are not many food trucks here and we did not try the others, so I cannot help you there. Kudos though to all the truck owners(they refer to themselves as “tenants”) for they all pitch in to keep this space invitingly attractive.”

“Nice central location that has my favorite food trucks -- Only Ono BBQ and Bang Um Out Grindz. There are shaded seating areas, some outdoor games, + music (jumbo Jenga blocks, bean bag toss).

Simply Local is the indoor store and has a great selection of local gifts, including fresh leis. And if fresh flowers are out of the question, there are beautiful prints of leis instead. I bought a matching set of a native plant patterned tea towel and washi tape by Hinu Rise, which felt fitting as gifts for our friends in Japan.”

“I cried good tears this morning. I've never in my life cried because of how divine the food was. I ordered the crab cakes benedict, usually when I order crab cakes it's a hash brown with little bits of crab meat but this one is purely crab and it was so fresh like it was caught in the early hours before restaurant opened. Eggs were cooked to perfection and the hollandaise sauce was heavenly. It was love on a plate, my compliments to the chef! Service was absolutely wonderful, lovely and welcoming ladies. FOOD:
Chicken Katsu
While this is far from being a Korean dish, it's what I was craving. The two slabs of chicken were breaded and deep-fried to a golden brown, and laid out on 2 scoops of steamed white rice. You can choose 4 banchan sides, in which I got mac salad x2, bean sprouts, and potato mayo. Their katsu sauce is too sweet, which is why I always do takeout so I can use my Kagome-brand sauce from home lol.

Man Doo Kook Soo
This is a Korean version of ramen but was anything but. The rice noodles were a bit overcooked and didn't have any chewiness to it. I like them as a somen dish but not as a noodle soup. The broth was clear, very subtle in flavor, and tasted similar to egg drop soup. The bowl was topped with 4 good-sized pieces of soft mandoo with a tasty pork filling, egg washed shredded pork, and cooked white & green onions. Temperature was hot but not searing. Better than pho but it'd never dethrone a ramen in my world, lol.

SERVICE:
The workers were welcoming and friendly. I got my order in about 10 minutes.

“Our family has enjoyed Fork and Salad for years. They have amazing staff, expertly designed salads and sandwiches, and great local products. It’s “feel good food” that always leave us satisfied and feeling healthy. Our kids also love it (they eat kale now!) and our six year old says that she wants to work there someday! It’s definitely a great meal for Kama’aina and visitors.”

“This is Kahului's original location. It was completely rebuilt a few years ago. Not having them around for several months was torture! Nothing really beneficial was accomplished aside from looking prettier. The drive thru is still narrow and the dining room the same size.

I have favorites, like everyone else does. First and foremost, I'm ecstatic they brought back the Mexican Pizza.

If you're missing the MexiMelt, order the Cheesy Rollup and add ground beef & pico. It tastes 99% the same.
