Ignore the bad reviews. If you want cheap ice cream, go to the supermarket. The guy who runs this shop is one of the hardest working proprietors on Maui. I've been going here for decades.
If you want to find some of the best ice cream you've ever had look no farther. I've lived in Utah California & Texas and this place beats them all. The Ice cream and all cones are homemade. Not too sugary, they taste like real food and you don't feel "bleh" afterwords like some ice cream places. Some people have complained that he asks if you want a tip while you're checking out and it's really not that big of a deal. Husband came here twice for dole whip. It was delicious and the waffle cones were great but it is pricey! Three cones each visit ran about $28-$29. We did stop by Safeway after our first visit to grab Haagen-Dazs in generic flavors such as chocolate for the kids which wouldn't break the bank in the long run.
