Tourists beware…I booked this hotel through Expedia, and because of the wildfires on Maui, had to cancel the trip. I canceled with Expedia early enough to be due a FULL refund of what I paid to the hotel. The hotel has refused to give me a refund, all I got was the runaround from everyone I contacted. With all of the other amazing hotels on Maui, do yourself a favor and stay at one with some Aloha, because you won’t find any here.

Our stay at this hotel would have been disastrous if we didn’t ask to change our rooms (king room with ocean view in the unrenovated building) to premium rooms with partial ocean view. Honestly, those rooms in the unrenovated building were so old, they were definitely not worth the price. They looked like motel rooms dating from the 70s! We had to pay $140 more per night per room for the premium rooms. Not saying those rooms were worth the price but it was just to avoid the inconvenience of looking for another hotel to stay. We were also one of the unfortunate lots who were there when they changed management so no F&B was open. Hence, we barely spent any time at the hotel. Also the pool was small and murky, the beach was nice but the prices of renting sun chairs and umbrellas ( sold separately) were ridiculous! 1 positive point was the location, which was calm and quiet, and a short walk away to the Whalers village.

Half of my hotel stay was a 5/5 but it was bought by new owners for the other. I booked this hotel stay because it was the only privately owned hotel I could find in Maui. There was so much attention paid to honouring and celebrating Hawaiian culture, from the food to the amazing cultural centre. All staff was friendly and I had an incredible experience with the cultural centre staff who were always happy to answer any questions I had and share their own personal experiences. My farewell lei ceremony was a moment I'll never forget. I had a great Hawaiian meal at Hui Hui and halfway through my stay the hotel was abruptly bought and rebranded to Outrigger. Hui Hui is now going to be "Maui Brewing Co" and I can only hope that the new owner preserves what makes this place special - the cultural centre, the staff, and honouring/celebrating Hawaiian culture.

New name, new processes, wonderful tradition – great staff. Been going to this place 12 times over 20 years. Just awesome! Almost the second you arrive – you know you are in Hawaii and are starting to soak in the spirit of Aloha. There are updated rooms – go for the traditional style – it makes that time to feel you are on vacation far quicker and you’ll also save some $$$$. The garden area is massive – no competition at all to grab a chair under the shade of the frangipanis. The staff here also make you feel you are staying with family…….. or Elvis at his best! Don’t get worried about the age – its an old property but really well maintained. Outrigger now have taken over – hopefully bring the best from the Kaanapali Beach Hotel together with what Outrigger

I have mixed emotions about writing this review. We arrived under the old ownership. We were unfortunately there when Outrigger took over the hotel’s ownership and the price of most things went up with no warning. When we arrived our room was not ready however the lovely young woman switched some things around and we were able to check in early. I booked a premium room with a partial ocean view. The room was clean, spacious and the view was nice. The housekeeping crew members were great. We ate at the Hui Hui restaurant several times for breakfast and dinner and most days lunch at the pool grill. While a bit pricey the food was delicious and the service ok depending on your luck of servers. Because the staff knew they were out of work on Wednesday morale was low. Then came Outrigger!! We were not informed of the upcoming change when I made my reservation. When I heard about it I called the hotel and was promised nothing would interrupt our stay other than the Hui Hui restaurant was closing. Never mentioned the pool grill was closing too. We were left with the little snack place next to the lobby. Susan was so rude and snarky I couldn’t believe it. The food is way overpriced and equivalent to perhaps a gas station mart. I had asked for my usual turkey sandwich that had been made fresh at the pool grill and quite tasty. I was specific about what I wanted turkey, lettuce and tomato. I received a pre-made sandwich on wet soggy bread on the bottom, dry stale bread on the top and onions. I ate as much as I could and unfortunately got sick from it. The hotel did open an overpriced continental breakfast buffet for $30 for adults and $20 for children. No to go cups for coffee. Seriously! There was mass confusion with the computer registers after Outrigger took over. Internet is offered for free if you can get it. Very slow and I could hardly get a cell signal. It’s supposed to be a non-smoking property. No enforcement even by the pool. The bell service is great. Beware there is no secure luggage storage. The luggage sits out front in the heat. I was told not to worry because they have cameras! The beach is wonderful. The hotel is close to shopping and restaurants. If you have kiddos that will be in the pool I recommend goggles because there is so much chlorine. There is no gym, no indoor showers if you have a late flight and want some last minute beach time and some of the niceties I expected for the price I paid. Hopefully the operations will be back to normal soon.

My family and I had a wonderful stay at this hotel. It is located on a beautiful stretch of beach and a quick drive to restaurants and destinations in Lahaina. The staff are friendly and responsive to requests and needs. The rooms are on the small side as are the bathrooms, but they are clean and well kept. The pool is rather also rather small and gets crowded quickly, so if you are looking for a resort style pool, this isn't it. We spent most of our time out exploring and participating in activities away from the hotel, so this wasn't a huge issue for us. The hotel price was the best in the area when booking, but it amenities were not as important to us as they might be for others.

An all around let down from what we’d come to love of Ka’anapali Beach Hotel. Under new ownership, Outrigger, the hotel fails to reach reasonable expectations. Booked months back, there was no communication regarding such change. There were no on site dining locations as Hui Hui was closed and is in renovations to become a Maui Brewing location. Despite this truth, they’d had the willingness to send a welcome email 10 days prior to arrival, confirming our stay and advising that we book ahead of time with their on-site, beachfront restaurant, now no longer opened for guests to enjoy. WiFi was down as was their ability to check-in guests upon arrival. Lastly, and most troublesome, our private lounge chair rentals. Managed by their Aqualina partner, for $25/person, policy relayed to guests is that your rentals are private, until collected at 4:30pm. Upon our second days rental at 8:45-9am, paid for and with towels, books, etc. left to denote the chairs rental (not to mention the company provided tag attached that accounts for your last name and room #), we came back down after having finished getting ready. They will not prebook, hence our opting to go down early and then return shortly thereafter. At 9:45-10, return to find their employees collecting not only our paid for lounge chairs but also our books and towels that were our personal property. Thankfully, we’d arrived right before being hauled away. However, what a disgrace to customer service and their guests. Sadly, from start to finish, this new ownership, Outrigger, missed the mark. And so a hunt for our new Maui go-to hotel shall begin. Book at your own risk.

We checked out of Kaanapali Beach Hotel yesterday and wow, what a place! This was the first hotel in Hawaii we’re staying at as part of our honeymoon and we were so impressed with many things. To name a few, the grounds are beautifully maintained and so picturesque. The rooms are clean and bed is perfectly comfortable (the person who reviewed saying their bed was sinking to the ground- must have been very very unfortunate or mistook their bed for a sun lounger by the pool!) We were cheeky and did ask for a free upgrade when we realised we were in the un-refurbished part of the hotel, they unfortunately were unable to do this but we were happy with the room we had! The location is ideal, a stone throw away from Whalers Village which has lots of shops and ocean front restaurants. We ate breakfast and lunch a few times at the hotel and every meal was delicious, my husband especially loved the ho’okele breakfast and I loved the pancakes. Every member of staff we dealt with were pleasant and helpful. They offer lots of Hawaiian activities such as lei making and language lessons, I however left it too late to book in and the spaces were all gone! We cannot fault this hotel and are very glad we chose to stay here!

This hotel changed ownership during our stay to Outrigger Resorts. Unfortunately they have temporarily closed the bar and restaurants, even the pool snack bar. No food or drinks available for at least five days other than the $30 breakfast buffet. Further the new restaurant will be operated by Maui Brewing which has been closed for most of July for Health code violations.

Rumor was KBH remodeled and people were saying go stay there again, even though the prices have gone from under $200 for kama aina to $600/night. We won a silent auction for an oceanview room for $300. We stayed last weekend. Discovered it's the same ol same ol tired, dirty, smelly, dated KBH it's always been. VERY disappointed. Musty smell in lobby with 70's dusty lava rock, same stuff. They didn't have our room ready by 3:30 check in, so they told us to go hang at the beach and they would text us. They never bothered to text us it was ready until we called around 4:00 to ask. Room was manky with stink carpet, AC gave me a sinus infection (!), and room was cleaned, but not cleaned. It's old and gross. Furniture all scratched up and dated, tiles and grout was gross, sliding door frames all scratched up. AC unit from the 80's it appears. Not sure last time filter was changed, because of the sinus infection I now have after staying in there. Staff used to say Aloha to you when they passed- now they just stare at you and walk on. Pool was packed and not enough chairs, so we never swam in it. The restaurant they built at the front is WAY over priced, and does not have happy hour food. It will become the Maui Brewing Company soon anyways, who just was issued a red card from the DOH for a disgusting kitchen. Have fun eating cockroaches! Was supposed to get a bottle of champagne on our night there for our anniversary that they were comping us as a gift- which was a nice gesture- if it would have ever arrived. We called the front desk in the morning to ask about it and was basically getting the tita treatment on the phone saying too bad. We asked to speak to a manager and they sent a kid up holding a wet bottle and handed it to me. OK, at least it was cold (?) but not even in an ice bucket. Since this was at 11am when we were checking out, we walked to the beach and just drank it there with our lunch. This place will be the Outrigger in a matter of days- good luck- the staff is tired, their uniforms are 40 years outdated, and the place needs an ENTIRE makeover to even REMOTELY be able to charge $600/nt. WHAT A JOKE!!!

Way way way too much cheese on their pizza. Crust was undercooked as well, probably because there was a pound of mozzarella on top of it. Absolutely disgusting.
