The food was good the service was halfway decent only thing that needs improved is the waitress needs to check on refills on drinks

First time here. With FFA in town it was crazy busy. The staff did fabulous, food outstanding. Management also appreciates the Motor Coach drivers.

Stopped in for a late lunch on a weekday. Service was good, but food took longer than expected. Quality of food was excellent, but portions were very small for the $$.

This used to be one of the best places to eat in Ames, but has obviously been spoiled by success. This place became famous for their homemade sauces, but the quality has gone downhill noticeably. Now they taste like they come from a can. My bbq tasted okay, but the serving size was on the small side and my food was served in an unattractive manner. The waitress got my order wrong but she did work hard to make up for it. Long wait for my food - nearly 30 minutes, even though they weren't very busy. The acoustics in this place are atrocious - even though they were far from capacity it was very loud, to the point that my friends and I could barely hear one another speak from across the table. Good location with access from 2 major streets, and the parking lot is huge.

Hickory Park seems to be considered one of those iconic restaurants and it had been probably at least 20 years or more since I had eaten there, but on a recent visit back up to Ames after living in FL for 20 years, my brother took me there for dinner. Got to say I was pretty disappointed in the food. My burger was just dry and bland. Meh. I've had far better at many different restaurants. Still has the classic atmosphere and the ice cream choices are still top notch, but pretty disappointed in my entree. Not sure if they've gone downhill in the last couple decades, but I wouldn't recommend it.

I've been in Hickory Park in Ames 3 times since it changed hands. In my opinion, it's not near as good as before it changed ownership. I like ribs. The 1st 2 times there was no bark on the ribs from being smoked and they were not falling off the bone done. The last time there was bark on the ribs but they were too dry and weren't quite falling off the bone done. I will be going somewhere else to compare quality. All 3 times I was there around noon. That shouldn't have anything to do with the quality of the meat.

Hickory Park is beyond just an eatery, it is almost an attraction by itself in Ames. We loved their special blend of rustic charm and welcoming warmth. The service was casual but great. In the realm of the BBQ flavors, it may not be my number one. However, with their very resonable pricing, feel, and ambience, you might as well do yourself a favor and give them a shot when you're in this part of the town.
