“A wonderful experience, I came by for some drinks with my friend and had a great time. The atmosphere was lively, I walked in a little tired and left rejuvenated. To top it all off, Wyatt was one hilarious bartender. I will surely return again.“

Bar Winslow Bar • $

“Bar Winslow on Main St. is my go-to spot – it's the VIP lounge for my taste buds. The cocktails are like wizards concocting magic potions, and the bartenders, Nate, Adam, Renee, and Savannah, are the Hogwarts masters. Forget about Platform 9¾; I'll be at Bar Winslow, sipping enchantment from a glass! ?✨Don't worry, professor snape is not their portions teacher.“

Uncle Harry's Five and Dime Tavern Bar • $$
123 Main St, Cedar Falls

“This was the first time I visited this bar and I was pleasantly surprised. Even though it is a relatively newer business, I expected more of an old-time environment and selection of beers. They have a great selection of micro-brewery beers, as well as some popular commercial beers on tap. The bar stools are cushioned and have back rests. There are cozy booths along the wall opposite the bar. The place was very clean. Apparently it is also a popular place for the local darts aficionados.“

Octopus Bar • $
2205 College St, Cedar Falls

“I can say with confidence that this place is always a vibe. For college hill it’s nice, especially if you like the more indie/alternative scene. With live music and events, partnerships with local artists/food trucks (la Calle), there’s always something interesting happening down here. Admittedly the regular crowd on slower nights can feel a bit odd, but overall this is a good place to relax and enjoy a cheap Hamm’s.Parking: Parking can be tight on a busy night, but the hill is pretty walkable.“

Cypress Lounge Bar • $
209 State St, Cedar Falls

“Was once the cool little bar in the Black Hawk Hotel but closed when the Hotel went the boutique direction back in early to mid 2000s. Owner moved the Cypress to its current location while trying to maintain the original vibe. It’s a decent bar with the 3 pool tables occupying a space about the size of the bar area. It’s not a true ‘dive’ bar in that sense. They attempted to create that vibe and it didn’t happen naturally over time. Plus a true dive bar opens in the AM not 3,4 or 5 PM. I guess it’s like saying Applebee’s is a Supper Club. But its patrons do give the Cypress an atmosphere that has the feel of the Pump Haus’ younger sibling or maybe cousin. It’s the grade school for the future regulars of other downtown bars. It can get sloppy, obnoxious and sometimes stupid as they hone their drinking skills to graduate to the adult bars. It’s not hidden because it’s right there after you find it the first time. Just find their patio on State Street with high volume small talk and enter there. I do like the place as it’s full of young adults who are still figuring themselves out. They still have that twinkle in their eye letting all know that life hasn’t thrown that curve ball yet. It’s also full young clowns who think they’ve figured it out but mom still folds their clothes. From open to 9 or 10pm the Cypress is generally quiet or the adult hours. Wandering in after 10pm you’ll probably find a mishmash of college (community) parties going on at the same time. Go see for yourself and have a good time but be yourself and get home safe.“
