“Palmer's Deli and Market on Ingersoll catered an event our company hosted and they knocked it out of the park! I'm always scouring this page for catering posts but they are usually hot-meal type places. I was really looking for appetizers/finger food for this event. We held it downtown on Locust so I wanted somewhere close by to make it easy. I saw Palmer's had a catering menu and gave them a call.?The food! Everything was so delicious. We picked out a variety of cold appetizers; Meat tray, Fruit Platter, crudite, pinwheels, veggie triangles, red pepper hummus, tortellini skewers and a bruschetta tray. I love going to Palmer's for lunch so I expected it to be tasty but it blew my expectations out of the water! I could have eaten the whole tray of those veggie pizza triangle things. The pinwheels were so yummy and you could tell care and detail went into everything, nothing looked sloppily made. Even the veggies were all hand cut and fresh, no wet baby carrots here! You could tell nothing had been sitting around to dry out or turn brown. Fruit Platter was all fresh and the grapes were even cut into little bunches and easy to grab. Meat and cheese was all high quality... just above and beyond what I was expecting all around.?? Service: When I talked to the catering manager, I put in my order and she was like "you don't need an extra tray of this or that, you'll have plenty". I so appreciated that because it saved us money that I was willing to spend... and she was right! Even cutting back we still have plenty of leftovers to bring back to our office for coworkers to snack on tomorrow. ? They also provided plates (nice ones!), cutlery and napkins. Their delivery guy met me at the event space right on time and brought everything in and set it up. This was awesome so I could be focusing on other things.I really don't like dealing with catering when we have events but I Palmer's made it so easy and a no-brainer. I would go back and use them again any day. Everyone enjoyed it. Super impressed and it was very reasonably priced!!! Highly recommend. Oh and we got a tray of brownies and if you've ever had their brownies you know they are ?“
“A friend introduced me to South Union years ago and I was delighted by the quality of the food and the experience. The ingredients are fresh and the bread is awesome. The cafe is only open for lunch so it is way more convenient to eat here if you work downtown.Parking is either metered on the street or other paid parking. The atmosphere is interesting since the building is so old. It can get a little loud when they get busy. You do need to enter through the temple entrance instead of the street now. This is so the line to order can remain inside.Sandwiches are made to order and may take a while to make. They call the number on your receipt when it is ready.Coke is the fountain drink available.“
“My brother’s recommended and raved about the Italian Beef sandwich, that is was delicious and that I would only want more after tasting it for the first time. Well, I admit they were right as the sandwich lived up to all of the hype as it was excellent!!“
“I love eating deli food, and this is a deli paradise. They have weird combinations for the curious. I got the turkey club with a side of potato salad. Loved it.First time ordering online and picking up. This was a little confusing as there are no messaging telling you where to go. We figured it out. Don't stand in the long line and go straight to check out.Love this place.“
“My wife, and I, along with my kids, have been coming here since the "old days". Long before this great deli looked like it does today. This week before last, my wife Andrea, and myself, came in here for our last time before we move to Alabama in May. It was on our "must do" list before we left Iowa for good. We were blessed to not only see Rabbi Jacobson for our visit, but his very kind wife, too. I had informed them that I had been diagnosed with cancer during the summer of 2023, and his wife immediately told me to read the Psalm number relating to my age. Which is 56 right now. In fact, I was told to keep reading this Psalm. How wonderful it is to walk into a deli expecting to grab something to eat, and at the same time receive wisdom and blessings. As a Christian I have always felt blessed, and fortunate, to know Rabbi Jacobson and his family. He's always taken care of me, and I will definitely miss my visits to Des Moines to see him. Shalom, my friend, and thank you for so many wonderful years of good food and great wisdom.“
