“I highly recommend Black Cat Ice Cream! They have a lot of unique homemade ice cream flavors that are creative and seasonably appropriate. It’s a fun experience with the ice cream options and the atmosphere in the shop and outdoor seating options. I’ve tried their scoops of ice cream, and the ice cream nuggets dipped in fudge. It doesn’t matter what I get, so far I’ve been happy with my selections each time. If you love ice cream and are looking for something fun and unique, this is the place for you!“

Confluence Brewing Company Brewery • $
1235 Thomas Beck Rd, Des Moines

“I'm a hop snob, growing my own hops on trellises in southwest Iowa. Been a huge fan of Sierra Nevada, Stone, and Laughing Dog. When I encountered Confluence's Des Moines IPA - Double Dry Hopped, it instantly became my number one. What a perfect balance of subtle but not overwhelming sweetness with a crisp wet hoppiness that doesn't overwhelm. Getting this balance right is insanely tough.Got to tour Confluence and was even more of a fan. What a fantastic operation, with a passion for innovation. They may be Iowa's best microbrewery but I'm telling my boys at Sierra Nevada, you've got one hell of a competitor nipping at your heels!Confluence is a beer you can be proud of drinking, for its taste, its innovation, and its commitment to its communities.“

We ended up with more than the tables would hold, and they did an amazing job of getting to people quickly, and made the night great, from the 8 year old, to the birthday boy with some people getting food, and getting drinks to everyone. Many thanks to you!“

Snookies Malt Shop Ice Cream Shop • $

“I came here expecting to only be served malts, but contrary to the name, they offer much more than just that! Various ice cream novelties, bottled water, and napkins are served for prices that adjust with inflation. They even serve puppy cones, that's just another reason why I wish I was a dog! There was no indoor seating, but I guess that's how they keep their ice cream recipe secret from the public. My go-to order is a turtle sundae without the nuts and caramel, it's a state of ice cream rapture!“

“Was meeting a couple friends from work & decided this place looked fun & had decent reviews. Nice looking place with a lot of seating. I thought the prices seemed very fair for the amount of food you get, and the food was good. Waiter wasn't unfriendly, but not super friendly on the same note. Just had that mood like he didn't want to be there, but got the job done. The arcade was nice, but more for kids than adults, in my opinion. It was fun to play some retro arcade games & pinball though. The play cards were nice, instead of putting cash in the game every time. Seems you build points on the card, instead of receiving tickets. It is handy, but kind of confusing at times when you check balances on the card. Yep, I'm old & not up on todays tech, and I'm okay with that. Still a nice place and would visit again for the food.Parking: Doubt it was the businesses fault, but parking lot was a pain, due to all the snow. It was hard to get around the aisles due to snow banks at the south end of the aisles. Mall service who cleans the lot, could've pushed the snow further back. Wound up parking a ways away instead of messing around with that tight spaced area. Good news is, when the snow melts, won't be an issue.“

“We had a wonderful experience! The food was delicious! The staff was very accommodating and attentive. I don’t eat sausage but really wanted the biscuits and chicken that had a sausage gravy on it. Our waitress noticed the cooks had a batch they had started to make of the gravy and asked if they could put some aside before they add the sausage! This is the kind of service we are lacking and need more of! Thank you for such a great experience and out of this world great tasting food!“
