“Went for an unplanned dinner during the frigid blizzard - this was walkable from our hotel. Surprised they were quite busy and fully staffed. We got a quesadilla and Carne Asada. Both very good. Also got a couple jumbo Texas Margs cuz why not. Good chips and salsa too. Overall good food and good service. Margs were good but not real strong. This location seems a bit newer than the North side one.“
“Rico's nails it time and time again! I have tried several taco trucks around the Des Moines metro and surrounding areas over the last few years and when I'm eating quick in Ames it's going to be Rico's everytime. No matter how busy they are they are always kind and go above and beyond with their service. It is pretty cheap for the amount of food you get. You will not be hungry leaving this place. I would recommend everyone try it when they are in Ames.“
“I have been numerous times now and it's always been a great time. Food is great, drinks are great. We always get right in, even with 7 of us. They are very kind to our younger kids and helpful with my aging father. This is our go to place!“
“It was probably a week and a half since my visit but I’m usually behind on reviews. So it was my daughter’s first time and we both had shown up pretty late at night, before she had to go to work with me, for my overnight shift. She didn’t know what she wanted and when we were asked over the intercom we asked for a moment. Originally we had talked to a female and then it was a male that came over. They had a steady moving line so we expected they were busy. As we were difficult and sort of slow we knew we left a bit of a gap between ordering out next item. You all have a massive menu and it’s great. Then a female came back to finish our order. Now for someone coming up on their 12th shift in 5 days I caught what was going on. My daughter and I chuckled as we pulled to the window and saw two smiley faces greet us at the window. Found out they were brother and sister and I told them how I worked with my siblings growing up. So many times you go and place an order and get rudeness or someone who seems like they hate their job. These two were trying to make it fun and they did. My daughter asks to go back every time she comes to work with me. These two siblings gave me hope for their generation as they were a little quirky but the line moved steadily and the food was hot and fresh. I talked about this experience with my friends and my daughter talked to her friends about it. Now they want to see if they can come across them. Thank you to the brother and sister who can make the best out of their day and still bring smiles to their customer faces. We will be back!“
“Shrimp Arepas are AMAZING! It is a comfortable space inside and includes a piano and has a slight bohemian vibe. Don't be fooled by the empty lot. If people knew about it, would be packed everyday. There is also a full bar with a wide selection of beer and liquor. I was going to mention service was slow but wow it was worth the wait.“
“Busy during lunch, because their lunch deals are unbeatable. In my opinion, they have the best chips and salsa in town.Kid-friendliness: Safe, friendly environmentWheelchair accessibility: They have a way to access the front door easily from the parking lot“
“We had a party of 10 on a Sunday evening. Every aspect was great! Everybody had something different, and they all raved about their dish. Large servings. Fabulous $5.00 margaritas! One person who doesn't care for Mexican food had the chicken wings and raved that he had been searching for wings like these since eating some in a famous restaurant 20 years ago. Service was fast and exceptionally friendly. Great prices, too!Dietary restrictions: They have a selection for diabetics upon requestWheelchair accessibility: No steps to maneuver“
“The tables are turned over quickly, so waiting want a problem even on Friday night. The food was quick and some of the best serve had in the area. Our waitress suggested a pineapple margarita and WOW. She was right. ? Also, get anything with chipotle sauce....“
“So I went to this place 9 years ago (it *just* showed up in my Facebook memory feed, which says, “Just had the best tamale of my life at #MrBurrito.”) and when I tell you I think about this place and whether or not it was still open after COVID-19 *quite* frequently and how happy I am now to see that it is, indeed, *still open* makes me so freaking happy. Like I had awesome food here and I *still* think about it nine years later. Not to mention the food was cheap enough for a broke college student to afford. This place is really one of the highlights of that time in my life, and I’m so glad it still stands because that means maybe my wife and I can go on a road trip and I can take her here ?“
“The food was great. I tried a margarita and it was a little heavy on the mix. I prefer table chips warm, but these were still crispy. It would have been nice to be told that we needed to go up to the register to pay. You don't see the register when you come in because it's tucked on the side of the door out of the way. I really enjoyed the tamales.“
