I stopped into this place a few days ago. The burger itself was good, but the lettuce was weird and wilted. I had to pull some of it off. Just had kind of an odd texture to it. Allegedly there were caramelized onions on it. I think I saw some, but could not taste them. Fairly average burger for an above average price. The fries would have been great with less salt. Hand cut and perfectly cooked, then ruined with what seemed to be a cup of salt. The server was all right, but seemed to be more interested in her phone than anything else. I had to get up and let her know I was ready to go and wanted to pay as she seemed so detached from her job.Over all, an okay experience. I doubt I'll return. It wasn't terrible, just flat out average and there are better places to go in Iowa City.

It is a burger place with a great bar. What else could you ask for in a place that has "burger" in the name? Unfortunately there is no longer a "shine", but historically there was on the building.

One of, if not the best burgers in Iowa City. A decent value for the quality of the hamburger. Would have rated 5 stars, but the cheese curds appetizers were overcooked and greasy.

The burger was perfectly prepared and the portion size was very good for the price. The french fries were absolutely some of the best.

The place was a little small, counters were dirty, the burger was well seasoned but over cooked. The bar tender was great, the beers she suggested were really good. It could be a great spot thats in a great location.

I had a black bean burger with fries, others had breaded pork tenderloin, burgers and fries. All very good. Farm to table Iowa food. Locally sourced. The fries are very good. Friendly service. Plenty of TVs to catch the game. Delicious burgers!

Tough review to write but Short’s food quality has absolutely fallen off since the glory days.We used to come here exclusively for the cheese fries, but they switched from real, stretchy cheddar cheese to what tasted like starchy velveeta from a bag.Burger was ok, but they randomly put bacon on my Colo even though it’s not supposed to be. They also switched from 1 big, juicy burger to 2 small, dry patties.Kept it at 2 stars because the waitress was great and Shorts sauce is still fire.

Underseasoned, Overcooked, overpacked, and ok quality beef covered up with a bunch of "creative" ingredients. Think McDonald's Quarter Pounder without the speed or affordability. How this place has a reputation as a "good burger place" is mind boggling. It all starts with the meat anf these guys have no idea what a good patty looks like.

The best burgers in Iowa City by far! I had the Dundee and subbed Swiss cheese for American. The fried egg was cooked perfectly and the garlic aioli is amazing!

Yummy! This place was cute, especially with the outdoor seating. The happy hour on drinks was really good too! $4 off all cocktails or half priced beer

The quality of the food has tanked since eating here over a year ago. Stale buns, frozen patties (yes, frozen), and an absurdly small amount of bun spread that seemed like a joke. My husband ordered medium rare and I ordered well done and they came out the same). Thank heavens for their signature sauce to mask the burger taste. Such a shame because the burgers used to be top notch.

Could not eat here. Only tall tables and booths. My wife has fused vertebrae. When we asked to try a booth even though they are elevated we were told they are for parties of 4 or more. We told them we were leaving since they are not handicapped accessible. Wheelchair users who cannot move to other tall seating wouldn’t have any option.Wheelchair accessibility: Absolutely not accessible.

Been at Shorts before and the burgers were bigger and better tasting. This time in (Feb '23) I was disappointed. Burger was smaller, bread is different. The fries were still good.

Server was very nice. But the burgers were dry as I've ever had (think well done X10) and the server never even asked how we wanted ours cooked...guess that's not an option here. Most burgers, and there are a lot of em, are between $14-$16. Way too much for what you get. Just make sure to get lots of water to wash it down. Fries were ok. Better burger alternative? Wendy's!
