John L's II Gay Bar • $
12456 Western Ave, Blue Island

“This is a review for a cool little dive bar that I went to recently. It had a pool table, slot machines, and a jukebox - everything you need for a good night out. The staff were really friendly and there was a good mix of regulars and visitors. The vibe was relaxed and unpretentious which made it the perfect spot to hang out with friends. The drinks were reasonably priced and they had a good selection of beer, wine, and spirits. And of course, the jukebox was awesome - they had something for everyone! Overall, I would definitely recommend this place if you're looking for a fun night out.“

“The wait to get our ordered food for dine in service was 1 hour due to MANY call in or Door Dash orders, IL I Once we saw the final orders some to us some of us smiled. I ordered eggs with onions which came without them, bacon was chewy and hard, Sausage links had a different but was eaten.“

“Nice club/bar/lounge space with great drinks. Live dj spinning the beats. Loved the people and the atmosphere. Will definitely go back again. Dress is casual. Cash and credit cards were accepted. I wish they made a whiskey/Scotch/bourbon type drink in the tall picther.“

Jeffery Pub Gay Bar • $$

“Rather than rally support for one of the VERY FEW Chicago South Side venues catering to the LGBT+ population and its allies - that has managed to stay in business for DECADES - it’s so much easier to bash it. Dysfunction Breeds Discord. I appreciate the resilience of the business and its long history of providing a safe space for mainly Black LGBT+ folks on the South Side. It’s never been upscale but I don’t think it was intended to be. Back in the day, it was a rare watering hole for locals and none ever worried about murder on or near the premises because the neighborhood was quite decent. No more. While I think it’s unfortunate young people no longer have the JP as a convenient spot, they still have the other spot not too far away. I applaud the JP owner for his bold move to make the space safer AND attract patrons who are not caught up in the rap sway. I plan to continue patronizing the business, unless and until I’m given reason to no longer do so.“
