The Great Lakes 535 galley is available to all students here on base to dine in for a meal that will fill you up during SELECT hours of the day. The food has its ups and downs with some of them being good and others mediocre as to what you can enjoy. Not amazing, definitely edible. I appreciate that the Navy provides special needs workers with jobs through hiring goodwill to staff their galleys here and in Recruit Training Command (RTC). I've heard this is the best galley/mess Hall in the Navy, I disagree the galley in Yokosuka, Japan is superior. I love the salad bar option and the varieties of food available as well as the option to take food back to go instead of eating at the galley.

It's a galley. Calling it anything more than that would be incorrect. The food is edible, the staff is adequate, and the place is about as clean as your barracks. The brunch is usually okay one weekend day, but never both. Once in a while you get a decent meal. Only redemption is that it's cheap.
