If I could give this place zero stars, I would!! I got a chicken enchilada, ala carte, and 1 beef taco, and one chicken taco, to go. My husband picked it up, and when I opened the container, it was a grainy, dark reddish/brown sauce that looked like it was swimming in grease. It had a few small shreds of white cheese on top of the enchilada toward the middle. I thought, maybe it would taste okay, despite the presentation. The sauce tasted like some off- kind of BBQ, and the flavor was disgusting!! It was like eating a spoonful of grease! The tacos were soft tacos, and they were anything BUT soft. They were rubbery, and tasted EXACTLY like Taco Bells ground beef. If I wanted Taco Bell, I would have gotten that, but I never eat there for a reason! I expected far better than this overpriced(for what we got)nasty food. And to add insult to injury, my husband asked if there was any cutlery in the bag, he(the cashier)said "Man, I don't know, I didn't put it together." If you're traveling, as we were, and you don't know anything about the area, stay away from this greasy spoon! The food wasn't fit for my dog to eat, let alone us! I rarely ever leave reviews. I will generally post a review for one of two reasons: 1. Exceptionally great food and service, or 2. For exceptionally terrible food and service. This place had neither good food, nor did they have good service. It's been 15 minutes since I had a bite of the enchilada and a bite of the taco, and I already have heartburn from the enormous amount of grease in all of the items. 9/10 of the food went into the trash, where it belonged. DON'T WASTE YOUR TIME OR MONEY HERE!

Expensive place, they charge for a little extra sauce, food has no flavor it’s not worth it, I can rate this place with a cero 0, the food was uncooked the rice and potatoes, they asked me about the food and I told them it was uncooked, and the guy at register replied: I’m only here for my salary he said talked to owner, that’s the problem when people work just for the money, they aren’t willing to serve and retain the customer, that’s why the place is dead, unfortunately this area is dying, I like to pay for what I get, not in this case pay high and really low quality food and service!

Received our food over 45 minutes after two other tables were served after we placed our order. Food was cold as well as the plates. They tried to reheat the food but reheated the lettuce and sour cream on the plates. We did leave and paid for the kid’s tacos and cheese sauce. No one tried to say sorry or offering anything for the mistakes.

The food was burnt on the edges of my chicken. The refried beans were dry and the mexican rice was tasteless. We were only there with only 2 other groups and out waiter was at our table one time to check on our drinks and ask how our food was.

Agave is my family's "go to" restaurant when we're wanting Mexican food in Mt. Vernon. I can't remember going anywhere else over the last several years. I usually get the chicken fajitas, and they're always delicious. Even when they're busy, I don't remember waiting longer than 10 or 20 minutes for our food. I'd recommend Agave to anyone wanting an authentic Mexican experience in southern Illinois.
