“Amazing place. Pricey but the quality and taste are equal to none – no other Korean BBQ place in the area can compete on those fronts, and I've been to multiple. The servers are always really attentive and nice too, I just really enjoy the place as a whole.”

“We were so impressed with this place! We were craving Korean food and felt so glad to have stumbled upon this authentic restaurant in Niles/Morton Grove.

Everything looked so good on the menu that we ended up over ordering with 4 dishes for 3 people: Jokbal (boiled pig trotters), Seafood Pajeon, Gopchang Jeongul (beef intestine spicy stew) and fried chicken wings. The platters looked just like the menu pictures, and everything was so flavorful and tasted so authentic as if it was a home cooked meal. We definitely could've just ordered the pajeon and jokbal and we would have been stuffed.

Jokball was tender and fresh, nicely thin slices. The seafood pancake by itself was great, crispy on the edges with the right amount of mixed seafood (not just batter). Gopchang jeongul was the highlight to the meal - savory and not overbearing spicy. Fried chicken wings were pretty good, too. This was an amazing, cozy meal.

On top of the great meal, the hostess/owner was so accommodating and kind! She gave food explanations and checked in on us often to ensure we had everything. I cannot wait to come back to try other dishes!

“We were put in a very nice smallish dining room where we could easily hear each other. We all enjoyed our meals from turkey burgers to a salad to brussel sprouts and artichokes. Our waitress, Diana, was outstanding!!!! Super cute and friendly, efficient and we liked her bubbly personality so much we kept asking her to pull up a chair and join us! We will definitely come back but only when she's serving! Great meal and great service!!!!”

“I’ve lived less than a mile from this place for a decade and never tried it; tonight was the night. It’s a unique establishment - hookah lounge, banquet hall, bar. Walking in was a little confusing for first timers but we were quickly welcomed and seated at the bar. Drink pours were impressively heavy. Our food came out fast and was great. The cheese burek appetizer deserves special mention with its garlic and hot sauces! Our waiter/bartender was in full hustle mode on a busy Friday night but still found time to take good care of us and have a few short chats. Overall I’d highly recommend eating here. It’s a bit “different,” but who likes the same old thing over and over? I’ll be back.

We ordered the 2 different options of boneless chicken (soy garlic and original flavor) and bulgogi kimchi fried rice, and they all were flavorful! We were given complimentary pickled radish! The food came out quickly, and the staff were super friendly and kind! I really like the idea of the self service stations so you are able to get what you need without waiting on the staff to get you utensils and etc so your food comes out faster and as soon as it's made! The restaurant is super clean and quite cozy!”

I’ve tried almost every spot outside of the chicken spot in the front and I have to say that what a dumpling is by far my favorite. Reminds me of my grandmas and mother’s food. Homemade dumplings and the broth tasted great. It’s a complete different texture compared to the frozen ones.

The Noona that worked there was great as well and I observed that all the customers that ordered from there were satisfied as well. When you see empty plates and bowls you know that’s a good sign.

The menu featured Korean and American food.I wanted wings but I had chicken twice the day before so I went with the Kicken Burger with bacon instead. It was $16 for a combo, which seems a little high but the time I spend in the area the more I learn it's about average.I got to watch them cook the burger patties on the flat top and then give them a nice char grill. It was huge, almost overpowered by all of the toppings. A big slice of grilled onion, a hunk of tomato, lettuce, bacon... I had to remove some of it to enjoy the burger.The burger itself was well seasoned and tasty with a grilled bun and good sauce. Yes, the sauce was kickin' it a little bit.It came with standard crinkle fries but they were crisp and there were lots of them. More than I could finish.”

“For me, this is THE best Korean-Chinese spot in Chicago. Sure, there are places like Yu's Mandarin, Chef Ping, Great Sea, Great Beijing, etc but they don't focus only on Korean-chinese food like Lai Lai do, hence in my opinion, Lai Lai serves the best Jajangmyeon and Jjambbong.

Now, Jajangmyeon comes in many varieties, but most people aren't aware of the differences:

Regular Jajangmyeon: All ingredients are stir-fried, then water and starch are added, resulting in a familiar starchy texture with added sugar or salt.

Gan Jajang: Cooked with just oil, it tends to be more oily and has a stronger "fire" taste from longer stir-frying, often more salty.

Uni Jajang: Ingredients are minced, so the dish lacks visible ingredient shapes and texture but brings out most flavor.

Sam seon Jajang (precious ingredients from sky, land, and sea): Originally with expensive items like shrimp, abalone, and pork, now often substituted with squid and cheaper ingredients.

Tray Jajang: Essentially +2 portions of Sam seon Jajang without the expensive ingredients.

I mention this because in Chicago, there are very few places offering these varieties, and even fewer doing it well. No one specializes in it quite like Korea, and the closest I've found to matching Korean taste is regular Jajangmyeon from Lai Lai.

As SGD Dubu (so gong dong) can be found in many different locations in IL as it is a franchise restaurant, but! this SGD Dubu place serves the most well prepared and very delicious SGD Dubu soup the way it should taste.
