“You want AMAZING Jamaican food? Come to De-Jred. You want a simple and cozy ambience, with the nicest people serving and helping you? Come to De-Jred. Come for the smiles, the laughs, and a little taste of Jamaica. I’ve rarely visited a restaurant where not only was every entree good, but also every component of that entree was delicious - De-Jred happens to just such a restaurant. From the lady serving us with a smile, to the beautiful lady sitting at the counter and bringing us our food, to the vibrant gentleman cooking in the back - everyone wore a smile, and had a great attitude. The food was phenomenal and cooked to perfection. I hate cabbage, and I polished it off my plate before I even touched the other things on my plate! The variety of Caribbean sodas being offered, transported me right back to the beautiful beaches of Jamaica. We finished our meal with a dessert of coconut drops and sweet potato pudding - both were good but that sweet potato pudding deserves a special mention because it was truly scrumptious. Also, for those to whom this matters, they serve Halal meat (see my pics). All in all, I don’t care how far this is from me, I’m going to be coming here over and over and over and over and over again!!! Highly highly highly recommend!!!“
“Overall Thoughts: I went to Amaru for 2024 Restaurant Week, and it had lovely vibes, solid food, and friendly service all around. My friends and I got the cheaper $42 dinner option and felt the value was good— we were stuffed and satisfied afterwards. Out of all 3 courses, the dessert was definitely the weakest, but I really enjoyed the other two courses!- Course 1: Requeson (4.6/5): The soft cheese was delicious; it was creamy and slightly sweet, pairing nicely with the slightly spiced salsa.- Course 2: Mole Y Leon (4.5/5): This was my first time having lion’s mane mushroom, and it was great! The texture was stringy and chewy, and the seared flavors were strong. The yuca was crispy and tasty, and the mole was rich and earthy.- Course 3- Espresso Tres Leches (4/5): Definitely lacking relative to the other two dishes; the cake wasn’t moist enough in my opinion, and the flavor was kind of monotonous.—Price (relative to peers): 4.2/5Food: 4.4/5Ambience: 4.9/5Overall Value: 4.5/5“
“Everything was very tasty and excellent. From the food to the service, it was a very enjoyable evening. The appetizers and main entrees that were ordered tasted fantastic. I didn't have enough room to eat more. Even the cocktails were very tasty. Definitely a great recommendation for folks to visit. Hoping more folks will plan time to visit and enjoy the wonderful menu items. Also want to note that everything is very reasonably priced for the quality and amount that you receive.“
“Food is very good, especially the hen and coco rice. Festival is the best I’ve had outside of Jamaica. Service has always been very friendly and the inside has always been clean. Definitely would recommend, especially if you’re looking for something besides fast food and fries.“
“Food was delicious, very well seasoned. Service was nice, owners checked on you.Atmosphere had good vibes.Ordered Steak Jibarito, Skirt steak dinner (added shrimp) which was a little salty.& apps such as chicken & beef empanadas. Everything was good especially the empanadas, black beans and white rice. They also make cocktails.“
“This was my first time at this location and it was phenomenal. The ambiance feels inviting, warm, personal and touch of “home”. It felt like I was having lunch at my house. The food was very tasteful and well seasoned. I am one of those people that usually go with the “hamburger” or “chicken strips” because I am scared to try other foods. I ordered the red beans and rice with sausage and shrimp skewer. It was very delicious. The service was excellent.“
“This place as always never disappoints me or my son. We love visiting this place when we are nearby. Everything from the food, staff and environment are always so welcoming and friendly. My son loves their pupusas and I love them too but I always like to try something new and different. Please feel free to visit them if you are in the Albany Park area.“
“By far. By far. My favorite Jamaican food spot. The portions are big and every bite is so flavorful and delicious. The people there are kind and sweet and will remember you! Love this place and I get food from here every chance I get. Always satisfied and happy coming here.“
“Omgesh Richard was amazing to everyone...So I thought Richard was just a friendly worker. NOPE he's the owner!! With an up & coming new spot on the way. The food was amazing and the service was the Top Tier. Definitely recommend!!“
“I'm so glad we finally found some great authentic Jamaican food close to home! Our first time trying Taste of Jamaica was for a delivery order. We ordered the beef patties and jerk chicken plates and every part of the meal was flavorful. The rice and beans were some of the best I've ever had. Jerk chicken pieces were seasoned and marinated well even without the jerk sauce. That said, adding that slightly sweet, spicy jerk sauce really elevated the experience. The plates come with two sauces and honestly, we couldn't help ourselves from drizzling the rice and the chicken with it. Im ending with the cabbage but don't get me wrong, that cabbage was not at all a side show. It was filled with flavor and complimented by carrots as well. Everything was perfection. Portions were generous and absolutely worth the money. We can't wait to order from Taste of Jamaica again very soon.“
“I went to this location and the customer service top tier the young lady at the front she recommended me to oxtail it was good I actually really enjoy it thanks to the Jamaican cashier at the front I’ll definitely come back with my family .“
“From the menu it wasn't what I was expecting. But they knocked it outta the park. I later learned that this originally was a food truck-- which made so much sense as I was expecting oxtail, curry goat, steamed cabbage... But, the flavors were fire- I got the chicken thighs with allll the sides? Why you ask? Because Naomi was an exceptional host. My ranking for the sides (first being the best) corn and black bean salad (much like a cowboy caviar), sweet plantains, island slaw, coconut rice & peas (you have to add jerk sauce, but that's normal ) They have variety of sauces to chose from, the cilantro creamy one was my favorite. Yo-yo and Naomi also let us try the beef and veggie patties- you gotta order this at least once. Split it with a friend and talk about life. You'll be happy you did. If you like ginger, get the ginger beer. It isn't too "spicy" but has a ton of sugar (you have been warned). Enjoy! Tell them my review is what convinced you to walk thru their doors“
“I had the ropa vieja and it was pretty good. First time trying the dish so I don't have a basis for comparison, but the meat was juicy and tender. The dish also came with a side of tostones, rice, and beans which were all good. Some of the friends I was with got other dishes and found the meat to be dry. The portion sizes also aren't very large relative to the price. Overall a pretty decent spot.“
“Ordered pickup from the Wabash location. Slightly confusing because the storefront is somewhat of Doordash operated. The goat roti was definitely on point. Roti skin was good quality. This spot fills the gap of missing trini restaurants in the city“
“The food was good! Ordered 15 minutes before close and surprisingly they delivered my order. The catfish was perfectly fried. The cornbread was a little hard but overall this was a great meal especially at the time I ordered. I've been wanting to try her place, I'll be back!“
“Very flavorful food! This is a hidden gem, always quiet when I come! This is some of the best Jamaican food I’ve had ever! Me and my mom came here twice in one week lol. The jerk chicken is delicious and so are their sides. You don’t wanna miss out on this!“
