“My wife and I went there for my birthday and it was not a good experience. We placed our order for ribs and were waiting then noticed the couple that came in 20 minutes after us received their ribs then 2 other people came in about 40 minutes after us and ordered carryout ribs at the bar. Their order came out. We got skipped somehow and asked them to box our order up which took another 10 minutes. We ended up eating at home after “going out” to eat. We spent 86.00 and didn’t appreciate being skipped over. We have always loved the food here but probably won’t be back for a while after this experience.3-30-24Gave them another shot today. Everything was on point! Ribs were awesome!! And our server Aspen was great!! Renewed my faith in this place!! Ribs are some of the best we’ve ever had!! Looking forward to returning soon!!“
“Great place to see a band. The restaurant and bar sides are separate. They seem to get a lot of repeat customers. A lot of people seem to eat on either side. The owners also do community events for charity. Also non smoking making for a better atmosphere.“
“My burger and fries were tasty and very filling! Everyone in my party enjoyed their food! It was very busy when we were there, seating is close together but they accommodate, wait staff is on top of everything, very good and highly recommend!!“
“Obsessed with the food! Staff is always so welcoming & attentive. So happy to finally have an AUTHENTIC mexican spot in Portage. I no longer need to leave the city for some bomb tacos. So happy! 100/10 recommend. Can't go wrong with anything on the menu.“
“Got a chance to play here a couple of weeks ago friendly atmosphere very friendly great food great music met a lot of people I haven't seen in years will visit more often oh did I mention great music and musicians Blues R&B jazz country western just all around great place“
“Out of towner. Stopped in for a couple of drinks while waiting for another engagement. Sarah is literally the best! Didn't have or see anyone get any food. Can't speak on that. Seems like a local favorite spot. A solid experience all around!“
“This small place off calumet, or old 49, depending on how you remember Valpo, is a gem. It’s really small, so make reservations. The size also means it gets a little loud when it fills up, which it will. The menu is limited, changes weekly, and is delicious. I had a tasty salad and my wife kicked off with a soup she really liked (I can’t remember what she had). Then the main course came. I should point out that they have a butcher shop where you can Wagyu steak by the ounce, but it was $24 an ounce. Unless I could actually speak to the Wagyu cow and discuss Japanese Bovine American relations, it was just too steep for that evening. I did get the non-Wagyu filet, and it was cooked to perfection. The potatoes were good too. My bride got the Mahi Mahi, not usually a fish person, and she loved it. We will be going back. I should mention that the service was great. There is Joi Di Vie amongst the staff and it makes The Bait Shop a fun place to go.“
“4pm on a Wednesday my wife and i ate at craft house.I had a bowl of chili, which was very hearty with lots of meat. The flavor was good, but nothing special. My wife had a cup of French onion soup she said it was good. We both had the yellow perch dinner. Our plates were delivered quickly and piled high with thick meaty fillets and side winder fries. All were cooked just right. The side of Cole slaw was very good. We had enough food left over for another meal. Our 2 soups 2 meals and 2 waters $57. We will be back.“
“Stopped in wanting some good fish fry and drinks on Friday after work ...great people, fish fry was one of the best we've had in a while and the bartender was awesome! They had a DJ that night who was really awesome... Can't wait to see what the new owners do but hopefully they don't change what so obviously is great about the place! Thanks for a fun time!“
“As a first time customer, they took great pride and care of making sure things were correct. Ran out of an spirit and didn't charge me because it wasn't a full shot. They know customer service, and strive to be great at it. Bartenders were on top of my beers, not letting me go without. It is a smoking bar, but does not stink of cigarettes smoke.“
“After a day of hiking through the Dunes, we were happy to find a restaurant with 4+ stars. The ratings were true. Our waitress was very kind and patient with our questions about the menu. She was prompt on refills and a delight to talk to. The food was good and we will definitely stop back by when we return in the summer for a new Dunes experience.“
“The atmosphere is mostly mid to upper age. Mixed music genre. Staff/servers are amazing and very attentive. They served the best chicken sandwich ever. Drinks were refreshing and reasonably priced. The establishment was very clean. Will definitely return.“
“Their food is made fresh and you can taste the difference. From the few times that I've visited, the service has always been very attentive and friendly. I love their pastas, but their salads and entrees are good too! Surprisingly, their cold brew coffee is amazing too. Not overly bitter like some p“
“If you're looking for hometown this is it. Tammy did a great job taking care of my friend and I who just wanted to mind our business and have a few drinks. When a man repeatedly tried talking to us and was kindly told we weren't interested, his counterpart who got slightly confrontational about the situation, were both removed from the situation in a kind manner. Thank you Tammy!“
“I recommend sitting down in this little dive bar and enjoying their tacos along with the environment. I did and it was great. The bartender was very prompt and inviting. The bar had quite a few people sitting down at it but the booths were readily available and there is plenty of room. If I'm ever back in the area I'm definitely stopping in again and I hope it's sometime soon.“
“Not necessarily a customer review but my car broke down 100 miles from home in freezing weather with an infant and it was the closest open business. I received the most hospitality I've ever had from the workers and the customers. Very friendly environment. I would travel back down there just to be with such kind people. Thank you!“
“1st time ever stopping into Shenanigans. First time will not be only time the food was perfect Mareola our sever/bartender/waitress was phenomenal. The cook made order nothing less then perfect. QUALITY/USDA approved A1 like steak sauce............. #team# BaMAYESin crewKid-friendliness: Clean quiet and positive energyParking: Low place due 2 county n location yet eye recommended getting a designated driver nd visit this establishment....Wheelchair accessibility: Very accessible“
“I decided to stop in on a whim after a basketball game, to get carnita tacos and guacamole dinner take out. First of all, there is free parking right out front. LaCabana has handicapped accessible entry and restrooms. This place has authentic decor. It is very clean, which is important to me. There is a bar, and dining available. The wait staff wore clean uniforms and were professional with the patrons dining. They have high chairs. The pricing is fair for the quality and quantity of the menu food offered. After eating the meal, I would definitely go back again and be a repeat customer.“
“The Village Tavern in Porter: A Cherished Pub with Timeless Appeal The Village Tavern in Porter holds its place as the second of the three original pubs in the Chesterton/Porter area, a testament to its enduring charm and appeal. This classic establishment epitomizes the spirit of a traditional pub, offering a warm, welcoming atmosphere that feels like a second home. One of the Tavern's standout features is its outdoor seating, perfect for enjoying those pleasant days and evenings. They serve up some great cocktails, and while they don't accept reservations, the laid-back vibe makes it worth the wait. The food at The Village Tavern has always been a highlight, with every dish embodying the essence of delicious, comforting pub fare. Their Italian Beef sandwiches, in particular, are something of a local legend. I grew up on these sandwiches, and they remain a nostalgic favorite, packed with flavor and always satisfying. Cleanliness is a notable aspect of The Village Tavern. Both the restaurant and the restrooms, albeit a bit snug, are well-maintained, ensuring a comfortable visit. For entertainment, they offer a pool table and darts, adding to the pub's classic feel. The staff here are not just friendly and efficient; they're part of what makes The Village Tavern so special. I've known the owner and his wife since I was a little boy, and their kindness, friendliness, and generosity have always been a cornerstone of this establishment's character. In summary, The Village Tavern in Porter is more than just a pub; it's a community landmark where memories are made and cherished. Whether you're there for the excellent food, the delightful cocktails, or the friendly atmosphere, this pub is a must-visit for anyone looking to experience the heart of the Chesterton/Porter pub scene.“
