Ordered a burger, cheese fries, and a cup of chili. The burger came plain even though I requested BBQ sauce on it, the burger was also not cooked properly and was falling apart, fries came out cold with cheese on the side, even though I ordered cheese fries and the picture shows cheese on the fries. Chili was watery and came with a shake spoon to eat it? Weird. Steak ‘n Shake used to be good, never again.

This is the first time I have ever been disappointed going To a Steak and Shake! Totally self service. You HAVE to order on a machine, you have to fix your own drink, condiments are pre packaged in “tiny” little packages. There were people sleeping in the booths. Just awful.

For a place that prides itself in steakburgers (and milkshakes) you would think the burgers would come out hot. Nope. My dad got a steakburger and it was cold as well as greasy. Also, the fries were cold as well. Almost like they were just taken out of the freezer early in the morning and left to thaw out. Also, why would someone tip a machine taking orders?I got the chilli 5-way and parts of it were either lukewarm or boiling lava hot with no in between. It was like it was put in the microwave. If that was the case, which I'm 99% sure that it is, that was (and is) disgusting but not surprising. Because of this, I am not coming back and if I do, it is because I have 20+ minutes to wait around for a milkshake.

The food was fairly solid and I guess that is the most important. I was a little put off by the kiosk and no table service. I was very put off being expected to tip the kiosk.
Ownership replaced all of the waiters and cashiers with two malfunctioning self-service kiosks.

Steak and shake has changed a lot over the years.We placed the order on a kiosk. The food did get delivered. But drinks, napkins - we did ourselves. And then we bussed our own table.It's fine but it's not like it used to be.

I hadn't been to a Steak 'n Shake in a few years. They were closing stores all around our area. While traveling we decided to have a familiar favorite. What we got was a shadow of what it used to be. You order on a tablet, you get your own drink, use plastic forks to eat out of a paper covered basket, clear your own table, and for all that work they didn't do for you the computer asks for a tip. They don't even have the peppers or seasoning on the table anymore. It's like a Steak n' Shake themed restaurant. It's definitely NOT what we once knew.
