i love the look and feel of the restaurant and the staff is great, but the food leaves a LOT to be desired. i got the Gumbo, trusting that with “gumbo” in the restaurant’s name that it would be tasty. big mistake. i should have just tried the drunken chicken instead. the gumbo is awful. absolutely no depth to the flavor at all and it’s severely under seasoned. there was also only sausage in it when i was expecting more, like a typical gumbo. i will be back to try the drunken chicken but i am not too confident that the rest of the menu is worth it.

J. Gumbos was a great place to stop to eat while we were on our roadtrip, passing through Terre Haute. It is a welcome respite to the chain restaurants that litter nearby US41 and fits in nicely with the downtown's vibe. Our portions were appropriate, prices were good and the food tasty.

Visiting my son and his girlfriend and her family after their house fire, we needed to eat and step away from everything for a bit. Being a frequent visitor to Louisiana, not many non-native Cajun restaurants will reach a 5-star review. The food was good. When it was my turn in line, they were scraping the bottom of the etouffee, and pretty much what I got was juice. Their three entrees in a bowl are exactly that. All in one single bowl. It would have been nice to have the option of it being served in a three section divided bowl to be able to enjoy individual flavors. That was ignorance on my part for not knowing how they served it. Atmosphere and decor were all nice. Everyone behind the counter was very polite and welcoming. Our entire crew enjoyed the meal and will visit again.Parking: Parking is along the street or circle the block and find alternative.Kid-friendliness: Family restaurant.

I love the drunken chicken and honey sriracha chicken. They have Mexican coke and other glass pops. Also, while I was here, they gave a free bowl of food to a man who’s experiencing homelessness. Fantastic place.
We have been here several times for lunch. The voodoo chicken is pretty much everyone's go-to. Doesn't matter if it's on nachos or rice, it's pretty good. They have several toppings they offer, and you can add queso for a dollar. The only non positive thing I'll say is, depending on who you get will depend on how much chicken you get. There is definitely one guy there that rations the chicken. Overall a good place to go.Parking: They do validate parking, just ask for a coupon when you check out if you park in the garage.
