Delicious home-style food. I have visited many times and each time, the food is always excellent. Everything is made fresh to order. Friendly atmosphere and comfortable seating. The char-broiled chicken is always delicious as well as the chicken tenders and sandwiches topped with yummy slaw. All of the sides and sauces are mouth watering as well. This is the spot! I go at least once a week for a delicious and reasonably-priced meal. Happy to see a new restaurant open up in this area. Don't take my word for it. Try it for yourself. You will be pleased!

Stopped by and got the Spicy Buttermilk Fried Chicken hen house style with the slaw. My wife got a quarter chicken dark meat meal and recommends the mango chutney sauce. Wow! So good. Wish this place was closer to where we live. Will definitely stop by next time I'm in town. Street corn side was great but the Mac and cheese was the best! And on top of that Friendly service. She even put up with my father in law.

Really good food! Service was great. Definitely worth the price, and seems like they do catering? Would recommend

I ordered 1/4 chicken with sweet potatoes and creamy ranch sauce. It was excellent meal, delicious and low price. God bless you.

First timer, I had the chicken tenders and mac and cheese. Didn't care for the mac and cheese at all but the chicken tenders were seasoned just right, dipping sauce was tasty. My boyfriend had the whole chicken meal he liked it. I tried his cornbread and red beans and rice it was delicious!

This place surprised me but its was really good. Chicken was good and the sauces were great. A whole char-grilled with 2 sides( mac n cheese + red beans and rice) and cornbread = $20 plus tax. Not bad!!!

My co workers and I decided to try this place since none of us have been there. We all ordered different sandwiches and we all were NOT IMPRESSED! The pulled chicken sandwiches were more bread sandwiches than meat. The fried chicken was just ok and my co-workers also said there was more bread than chicken portion. All sandwiches were $7 and a rip off for that portion!! Go to Popeyes!! So disappointing! Mac and cheese and nasty! Grainy and oily! Probably 3 day old pasta!! Thought we would have a new place to go to, but nope! The only good thing was the ranch....nothing else!!

A place that specializes in chicken, should know what a burnt chicken looks like. And you still choose to give us a burnt chicken. Nothing like a burnt piece of meat.

Chicken strips are tender, juicy, and so good!! The brussel sprouts and street corn were awesome too.

As Whiting, Indiana emerges from the COVID-19 pandemic shut-downs, a new restaurant has appeared along the 119th Street strip - Hen House Charcoal Kitchen. We are not locals and love our big city escape to Whiting. With only four Yelp! Reviews under their belt, we cautiously decided to drop in for lunch - and were very pleased we did. A simplified menu of grilled chicken: quarter, half, whole; grilling preference: traditional or j**** side sauces: about nine to choose from (we got Mango Chutney and Chimmichurri); and a sides. There are a few other sandwich options, but SIMPLICITY and FLAVOR are the hallmarks here. (And cleanliness.) The chicken was hot, fresh, and tasty, with side sauces that compliment well. Street Corn side was flavorful, as were the Red Beans and Rice (which have a bit of a kick!) Corn bread, ehh, nothing to write home about - weak link in the whole experience - so not too shabby! The all female crew were very helpful, attentive, and friendly. Couldn't help but notice the music in the background seemed to be a Girl Power / Woman Empowerment Playlist (Katie Perry, Lizzo, Pink, et al.) #JustSayin. Bottom Line: If you are hankering for charcoal grilled (not fried) chicken, go to the Hen House - and support this fledgling business.

I tried this place twice, I was uneasy about going here again because the first time, it was a pick up order and the food was a little soggy. (Not the fault of the restaurant, but just because we took a while to pick up.) This time I ate in the restaurant, the food was so crispy and perfectly cooked! Plus the lady was so nice and her banana pudding was delish ! I will continue to help support this small business especially during the pandemic!

The food was tasty. Many sides were sold out with an hour to go. There were some activities going on that didn't seem conducive to a restaurant environment.

Newer place with details to iron out but the food and service are good. Tried Hen House for the first time today after seeing a post online and guys I was NOT disappointed. From the service to the food everything was BOMB! Highlights for me were the j*** chicken (Definitely go dark, legs and thighs) it was literally falling off the bone and had great flavor without being just spicy. I had it with their sweet bbq. Their red beans and rice (hella celery & sausage) as well as the mac were pretty good. Be prepared to buy a bunch of cornbread because its addictively delicious and thier peach cobbler taste like a southern grandma threw down on it.
