Cutest coffee shop in lawrence, can only hope they come back to KU's campus some day. Pastries, coffee, sweet treats, everything is amazing. Staff is super sweet and they have great hours. Inside is so cute and has lots of different options for seating. They even sell sweets and merch and other items right in the front door. Love this place and endless matcha lattes!!

I have ordered 5 birthday cakes and many cupcakes from McLain’s for my children’s birthday parties in the last 3 years. They are always beautiful, exactly how I ordered them & delicious! The guests at our parties always compliment the cakes! I will continue to order cakes for all of our birthday parties to come! This particular birthday party was a tea party so I also purchased a mini dessert sampler & mini cheesecakes and they were amazing too!

This is a nice cafe/bakery. It looks stylish on the inside, the service is kind and helpful. I haven't experienced any problem having eaten there. It's a good place to be or connect with family and friends, while enjoying a nice beverage or food item too. The place is a little on the small side, but it's still comfortable enough. They have reusable plastic cups that you can serve yourself water with. Their baked goods are quite delicious. And one time a server had given my table a free cafe drink that they had made extra!

My Market Wrap, which was supposed to contain Falafel, contained maybe 5% Falafel and 90% salad feta....I essentially ate a salad wrap. And I never thought I would say this, but there was WAY too much feta, and I didn't even ask for that. Neither did I ask for my fries to have sugar sprinkled on them. It tastes like I'm eating dessert. Not great. It's really weird.

Stopped here recently for lunch and a sweet treat. I ordered the grilled cheese and tomato soup. The soup was a major disappointment. First of all it was barely lukewarm. I don't think it was soup. The consistency and taste was of a marinara sauce. It was unlike any soup I had ever had. The grilled cheese was a mess. I will never order that again. The sugar cookies were good. But overall this was a disappointing experience.

My go-to spot in Lawrence during my college years and after! Love going for a mimosa and brunch on the weekends (my personal favorite off the breakfast menu is the market bowl with ham--sooo good), and I also find myself there at least once during the week for a cortado and salad while I work. Very study-friendly with lots of outlets, the food and coffee are always delicious no matter what I get, and I feel like everyone there always has smiles on their faces. And they have gluten-free cookies, which is always exciting for me. Highly recommend!

I like McLains and that bothers me quite a bit. The atmosphere is nice, the pastries are very good and it's a nice place to hang out. The food, though, isn't that great for the price. It's too pricey for the quality. The location is nice and I do like the interior. It is fashioned to be very neo-quaint (I made that up). Everything is very eye catching and pleasing. They sell t-shirts, caps, dry tea and coffee. You can get all sorts of knick-knacks at this restaurant. The food is order at the counter style and they bring it to your table. I was here with a friend and we told the cashier we were eating in the restaurant. The funny thing is they brought us all disposable utensils. People at other tables had glass drinking cups but we had paper. Very odd and my friend was not too happy about us being singled out in this manner.I love biscuits and gravy and I thought the McLain's version was both good and bad. The biscuits and gravy were good but it came with a scrambled egg and hash browns. They were terrible. Microwave oven best. They don't give you a choice of egg- which is telling. You automatically get scrambled. I guess that's the best the microwave could off up. The total price on the biscuits and gravy and microwaved scrambled egg and hash browns was almost $10. Not worth it at all.My friend had the Farmer sandwich. It looked good and it was very big but my friend was unimpressed. All the items on their menu seemed overpriced. Bottom line for me is that it's just OK, nothing special. The restaurant is easy to access and visually appealing. There are no issues with staff and everyone seemed pleasant enough. I just think this place could be better.

We ordered a cake April 4th for our daughters birthday in July. When we arrived June 30th to pick it up they came out empty handed. They said there was an app update to Toasty and it caused our order to be missed. We were given zero apologies. We made another trip the next day to pick up the cake. And still no apology. We will be going elsewhere from now on. Luckily there are more options available in Lawrence for cakes.
