“This was our second girls brunch at Salut. Both times the food and drinks were great! Love the small-ish atmosphere and kind wait staff. Allison M was our server this time. She was 100% on top of everything - very attentive, kind, funny, and engaging. The only thing that made the experience not so enjoyable was the table behind us. There were 3 women and a man at that table. The man kept staring at our friends’ 3 year old granddaughter the whole time we were there. He literally had to turn his upper body to see her. We couldn’t figure out if he thought we shouldn’t have a child there or if he was just being nosey. She was well-behaved and did not cause any disruptions at all. Luckily, Allison made up for it in several ways by bringing special drinks and food for the granddaughter. We will for sure be back! And to the rude man that kept staring, you might want to realize that you only made YOU look bad, not that sweet little girl.”

I asked the person who made the shrimp sandwich to change gloves due to a seafood allergy and the potential of cross contamination. To my surprise, not only did he change them but all the employees changed their gloves to keep him safe. I never like to have special requests but I was so thankful for their kindness and compassion. “It's what you expect for Chuck E. Cheese, but it was absolutely what our 9 year old wanted for her birthday party. Derek did a good job providing all our party needs. The dance party and ticket grab were fun additions. They ran around, played games and ate pizza, cake and ice-cream. The kids had enough credits to play games for a couple hours and most earned enough tickets for the prizes they wanted. All in all a good experience, just not something we'll do every year.”

“I walked into Circle Coffee for the first time ( all bright eyed and not decaffeinated, and I totally forgot to ask for my coffee decaf ( or what my sister calls sad coffee). By the time I realized, they’d already made my coffee and I was walking out the door— but instead of giving me the “well that’s on you” look, they smiled, told me to gift the original to a coworker ( who now thinks I’m the nicest person alive) and made me a fresh decaf for free. Heroes are baristas apparently. The shop itself is a whole vibe — calm, great lighting and welcoming atmosphere—enough ambiance to trick me into thinking I’m the kind of person who journals daily or could write a novel. Also, do NOT sleep on the strawberry goat cheese danish. It’s seriously delicious. I took one bite and considered writing it into my will. Life changing and I’m probably emotionally attached to it now. This place has great vibes, great people, and even better coffee and pastries. Highly recommend.”

To put this in context, I have lived over four decades in a different community that has many outstanding Mexican restaurants; moreover, I have eaten at at incredible Mexican restaurants in Santa Fe, Taos, Albuquerque, Tucson, LA, Texas, and so many more.

A colleague and I selected this place based on Google reviews, and it did not disappoint us at all!

Edgar, our server, was outstanding! It turns out that many of the dishes are named after him and his relatives (e.g., sister, cousins, and the like). My quesadilla was called Pedro's quesadilla; it is in the second photograph, and I substituted rice for the onions.

My colleague ordered the Evelyn Platter, which is the third photograph.

The chips were fresh and the salsa was distinctly homemade. They also brought out two bottles of additional hot sauce.
That was so good that I gave it nearly a 100 percent tip!
We ordered the most expensive dishes on the menu which were around $12; however, almost everything else was less.

Be aware, this place was converted to be a restaurant to say this quaint is an overstatement; it is really small. We almost did not stay because getting a seat was seemingly impossible; however, flowed smoothly and we were able to sit immediately. So were others!

If you want a unique dining experience at a family-owned restaurant, it is doubtful you could find anything better!”

“There are two times in my life where I haven't left a tip and 11/11/25was one of them. I and two of my co-workers and 3 of my special needs.Clients went to tailgaters for lunch. They were busy which was fine. My co-worker asked if they could wipe off a table for us.The waitress response was as soon as we can. My clients were well behaved and didn't cause any trouble. Later, the waitress came to our table and asked to take our order One of my clients was playing with the menu and laughing?She proceeded to put her hand on the menu and said enough of that.I already have a crying baby.Because there was a baby crying at another table. the waitress was very disrespectful and down right mean to us. she walked by her table several times did not stop to check on us , did not refill drinks and didn't even acknowledge that we were even there. It took forever to get our tickets and once we got our tickets.My co worker said we're ready to pay but the waitress proceeded to leave the table anyway. so we had to wait even longer for her to come back and take our tickets. My agency had Tailgators on the schedule once a month but since this horrid waitress made us feel unwelcome and treated us like an inconvenience we will not be returning. “OMG!GOOD GLUTEN FREE FOOD! I had the GLUTEN FREE pork tenderloin sandwich. I hadn't had one in years, because of my wheat allergy. It was really, really, good. The bun did not fall apart!!! The fries were nice and crispy on the outside but fluffy inside. The gluten free brownie was deeply chocolaty and was nice and chewy. The vanilla ice cream, (made right here in Topeka), was the best I've ever had. I was even given a little container of caramel sauce and one of chocolate sauce. The Gluten Free cinnamon roll had good flavor but was a bit hard, even warmed up, which is pretty common in gluten free cinnamon rolls. My husband had a regular burger and really liked it. Our waitress, Emily, said the meat is fresh, not frozen, and is from here in KS. Emily was exceptionally outstanding. She gave great service and gave great suggestions! It was really clean and not super loud on a Friday afternoon. We will be regular customers.”

“Up until a couple of weeks ago, it had been a Long Time, since I'd eaten at the Blind Tiger.
Two Weeks ago I ordered the 'Texas Roadrunner'... and WOW ! It was beyond scrumptious !! The BBQ Brisket had an amazing flavor and was so tender... the Chicken Breast could have possibly been a bit 'dry', but it was really hard to tell with the melted cheese and sauce, which more than compensated. The food literally melted in my mouth is was soooo good!
Because of this experience, when I was back in town, I had to swing by the BT again, and this time I had the Brisket Platter... which again didn't disappoint. In fact it was sooo good and filling, I had to take the loaded baked potato home and devoured it for lunch the next day.
If you've not been to Blind Tiger for a while, I HIGHLY recommend you go by and check it out! Y U M !!!”

“My first time in Topeka, Kansas found the wind gusting into the 40’s. Once I dropped off the highway, instead of being relegated to the hotel treadmill, I was able to wander across the parking lot to the Westridge mall.

Two miles in, and a handful of laps behind me, I finally slowed my pace to a crawl and then to a stop in front of this wholesome cookie shop. What kept crossing my mind as I passed it was how vibrant and full the cases looked, in a mall that has seen better days. It was obvious someone or multiple someones were keeping this business busy!

When I stopped, I found out the “why” of that curiosity. Gayla does a little walk in business, but catering and corporate orders have kept her busy for the past 11 years!

My sugar tooth kept directing my mind to the frosted sugar cookies. As she was bagging a little luck of the Irish up, the banana crumble caught my eye and that was added to the bag as well.

A little more conversation and a picture later, and I was back to walking. I did not make it far before I had to open up the bag.

First was the banana crumble. I will never claim to know baking, other than I can consume copious amounts of cookies, but it was light and the banana was very pronounced. Would recommend trying it! One, (or two) would pare perfectly with a morning cup of coffee or tea.

Next up was the sugar cookie.

The first bite, I could feel the snap of the cookie. It surprised me a little as I am used to a soft sugar cookie but then all curiosity was lost and the frosting coated my palette….

Again I know so very little about baking and even less about frosting. But this frosting was absolutely delicious. I can say it is the best frosting I have ever tasted! Light and balanced; not too dense or too sweet, but a perfect mouth feel and taste!

If you are in Topeka, please stop by and try Gayla’s cookies! These small businesses need our support, especially in spaces like Westridge mall!”

Old school Americana plastered on the walls and (metaphorically) oozing from between the tiles.

We were served very quickly, the food came the second we sat down.
And to be fair, we claim in at a time where it wasn't very busy, but worth it nonetheless.

I got the garlic parmesan steak burger and my travel partner got herself the oriental chicken salad.

I can say that the fries were perfectly cooked and the burger was perfect, like pillows of garlic bread with the best patties you've ever had.

I can't say much for the salad since my travel partner didn't let me have any, but she noted that she loved the ginger dressing.

And the sweet tea was actually sweet tea, so all around perfect in my book.”
