It’s rare to find any diamond, much rarer to find a true diamond in the rough. This is a dive bar but it is a true diamond. It looks like a dive bar inside and out. It serves cold beer, alcohol and the only food item is Boiled Mudbugs. You know this place is serious about their crawfish when as your eyes adjust to the darkness you see a huge 100 gallon chest of warm mud critters for self service on one end of the bar and then long tables with a big hole in the middle and paper towel rolls everywhere. The crayfish are big and fresh caught. They are not overcooked or mushy. Cooked with real fresh pepper cayenne peppers, red potatoes, sweet corn, garlic heads, sausage, onions and blend of spices. Unlike most boils there wasn’t the over use gritty cayenne spice feel on the bugs. They were spiced just not so hot it blocks the flavors. Now those of you who think that the heavy use of dry cayenne is the only way we’ll think again. Oh by the way remember to wash your hands before going to the bathroom or rubbing your eyes.I’ve had home cooked boiled crawfish for over 50 years. I’ve found good mudbugs in small family owned restaurants near the waters edge on the bayou, in Asian eateries, backyard parties and many a eateries. But this place was the absolute best. The place is apparently known by local professional chefs and food workers , also its received great reviews by TV cooking shows and even liked by Americas Foodies.

We went to Three Legged Dog for their crawfish boil and we were very happy with the food. Drinks were good and the bartenders were pleasant and efficient. Definitely do not sleep on this little French Quarter gem!

I would like to think I’m a fairly flexible person, but when you walk into a bar that’s in the French Quarter with no music, it’s an immediate disappointment for first impressions. They just had a tv show playing. When I asked the bartender about ordering, he was short with answering and not really helpful. I’m not sure if he was new or what, but he couldn’t really answer a lot of questions about the types of beer. The beer in the cooler was on the warm side and definitely not chilled enough. My husband went to the bathroom and said it was filthy and that there was pee on the side of the toilet. For him to say he had to use his foot to flush was enough for me to know it was definitely bad.We received our food and shortly after I saw a large rat go from one door to the door where the kitchen was. If that doesn’t ring filth? There was someone playing slots and asked for her cash out, they didn’t have the money to give to her, said they only had “$130 in sales.”My husband and I own a bar, if you are that slow, the bathrooms and the seating area should be clean. There’s no reason for it not be.It would have been a great local, dive bar but the filthiness definitely ruined it.

We saw reviews that there were just rats skittering around and didn’t believe them but when we went in we saw the fattest one walking through what looked like the kitchen area. Kinda funny but also extremely nasty.

It's not a fancy place but they have cheap and cold beverages, great food throughout the day and night and even laundry machines you can use while traveling. I've sent many folks to this bar and they have almost all loved it.

Might not be for everyone, but the Three Legged Dog is a great bar if you like dives, and is probably my favorite bar in New Orleans. They’re open 24/7 and serve food. The food is good bar food, and the drinks are cheap. The bartenders are definitely characters, but they’re friendly and the service is good. If you’re looking for somewhere fancy, this is definitely not your spot. But if you want a few cheap drinks and to strike up an interesting conversation with a stranger, you can’t do much better.

Dont cross them, bartender will knock you out on the sidewalk and management will giggle at you while you wait for the police. Thanks Dylan. Just wanted to talk... On the public sidewalk...
