Are you a medical student? Are you a nursing student? Are you a PA student? Are you some other kind of student who attends LSUHSC? Are you an employee of the university? No? Nor am I so you're in good company. So if I am neither of the aforementioned special groups what the hell am I doing eating at the LSUHSC Cafeteria? It is open to the public. Located on the LSUHSC campus, this cafeteria is pretty nice. It features a view of I-10 (A pretty sweet view I might add) and good food. There are several stations, but I usually stick with the sushi station or pre-made salads. The sushi station also makes poke bowls which they will customize to your liking. Add in that a poke bowl is a little over $10 and is very filling and you have one of the best values for lunch in the city. One of the only drawbacks to this place is that it gets kind of loud. Who knew nursing students could be so loud?

Honestly one of my best dining experiences at a school or hospital. They have plenty of options and stations to check out including grab and go wraps, salads, and even sushi, plus your typical burgers and pizza and fries. The sushi station they have is an incredible addition and insanely fast despite having only one woman working and making fresh rolls from scratch on demand. I tended to stick to the home cooked meals because it was always good and cheap! It's around $5 for an entree of the day (usually a choice between two items), two sides from a bunch of different choices, bread/roll/cornbread, and a drink. Their fried fish for fridays was quite possibly some of the best fried fish I'd had in the city... Pair that with some potato salad and Mac n' cheese and it was exceptional! Their grilled salmon caesar salad is also an honorable mention! Staff was always friendly, helpful, and nice, and often joked around with those of us regulars as well as checking in and making sure we were having a great day... I definitely miss them!

Time for an update.... The cafeteria management is definitely stepping up their game. Recently there has been a sushi chef working and you can get handmade rolls and/or a poke bowl! The Action station often has tasty salads and other customizable options. Breakfast continues to be a really good deal. And there are now fancy drink machines so I can fulfill my lime coke needs, as well as 3 different iced tea dispensers. They are really responsive to requests and the staff is great. I am sad that don't have the fried okra waiting for me anymore but did I really need it anyway?

I work at the hospital, and the food makes it all better. Breakfast is super cheap. Scrambled eggs are perfectly cooked, not spongy. Love the hashbrowns. I can feed myself for less than $2. They always have something good for lunch. If you're a poor student like me, or on a diet, get two sides for $3. They also have a nice salad bar and freshly made sushi. And nearby is a Menchie's and PJ's.

As good as it gets is right! I love the atmosphere and the wide variety of lunch options suitable for every dietary restriction imaginable. The grill master, Edgar always fires up a mean sandwich! Always make sure to make a reservation on Taco Salad Thursdays, as they can get pretty wild and seating may be limited.

Great food and staff. I had the lentils the other day and it was tasty! You can never go wrong eating breakfast here. You can split breakfast with a friend.

Great portions for the price. Fish fridays are thin and crispy :) No one really notices but there's trays and metal utensils so you don't have to use styrofoam Staff is super friendly and accommodating.

Edgar at the sandwich bar makes a mean grilled chicken wrap. He's a true wrap artist. While you're there make sure to ask for the "Wrap Thompson," a secret menu item that's sure to knock your socks off. The plate lunches give you a great bang for you buck and offer a taste of home cookin'. And The Fred special on Friday might offer the most fried shrimp I've ever seen crammed into a shrimp poboy. 8/10 would nom again. Watch out for the ranch soup.

About a month or two ago the the older lady who worked the register disappeared. Now there are moody unpleasant younger girls working the regular breakfast line where you get hash browns and the register. They're both awful. The food has also gotten much worse. It's gotten to the point where I will only eat the biscuit from here. I try to pack my lunch

You can't beat the amount of food you get for the price. I had the entrée special. Catfish, macaroni, potato salad, dinner roll, and fountain drink. $6.49 before tax. Taste. The food is decent. Much better than traditional cafeteria food. There is some flavor but it borders on bland. However, the price makes up for that. Just don't expect a 4 star dining experience.
