The food is ok and their menu is predictable. The problem is that the amount of food you get depends on the person serving you. Today I got a lot less on my plate than I usually get. A LOT less. If I'm paying the same price I should be getting the same amount. Not cool!

Soooo.... last Friday I came in here early in the morning to pass some time before a job interview on my day off from work. So I'm sitting there wondering if I should get a bagel or something for breakfast, or whether I should wait for my after my interview to grab some lunch. But first, I figured I'd use their bathroom first and then decide. Well, I went into the first bathroom on the right, used the restroom. Went for the soap on one dispenser; no soap. No worries, here's another one right here.... no soap. Then you get that moment of clarity, and realize that most bacteria that ends up on food, comes from folks not washing their hands post restroom use. I stood there feeling disgusted. Not only did these two soap dispensers not have soap, but they were the kind of soap dispensers that you can tell they have been empty for a long, long time. They were the foaming soaps, and usually you can get a bubble out or two if it's running low. Nope, NOTHING but air. [[shudder]]. BOTH SOAP DISPENSERS EMPTY! You had two, not one chance to get it right. It also tells you that of ALL the cooks and employees who work there, none of them went in there to use it and said to themselves "Oh hey I should go refill this soap or tell someone else to refill this soap, so you know, we can actually abide by federal health codes for food service". GROSS. I went elsewhere for lunch. Then, on Saturday, I'm crossing The Fenway behind the MFA to head to Huntington Avenue, and the two lane road, one lane slowed down to yield to the pedestrians (the right lane), and the delivery driver of a food van WAILS on the horn and slides from the right lane to the left lane at 40 miles an hour, (still wailing on the horn), and speeds up to go AROUND the car that had stopped for all the pedestrians, and guess what, it was the Northeastern Rebecca's delivery van with a kid driving it. Ugh, no thank you, third rate operation! so gross!

Bottom Line: In a sea of quick-eats in the financial district, this one floats all on its own. Swim baby, swim! There are so many places that you can hang you hat on for soup, salad, and sandwich down here. Some places you pay an arm, others you pay a leg, and usually you end up fed. Rebecca's kicks it up a notch with daily entrees that rotate (woo variety!) so I can come here multiple times a week and feel like i'm going to have something i'm not tired of each and every time. I'm ok with that. Their entrees are delicious and reasonably priced with more food than you should be eating in a day. And you know what? If something doesn't tickle your fancy they have 3+ soups that you can ladle up, or make your own salad/sandwich. Lots of variety. They also have a frequent diner card, Buy 7 get the 8th free. So that's not too shabby at all. Only minus is they can be heavy handed on salt on a lot of things, especially artichoke, so meh. And some of their "healthy" entrees are not so healthy. Just be conscious about what you're shoving in your face. I enjoy coming here, eating with the bf, watching CNN, and relaxing on my lunch break. Woo hoo!

Rebecca's offer solid lunch fare. It's is like a slightly less upscale version of Sebastian's down the street, offering many similar lunches -- fresh and grab and go sandwiches, tossed salads, snack-size items, entrees, and soups. The quality is a shade lower, but so are the prices. Rebecca's offers one of the only options for a salad with tofu downtown. And, they don't charge extra for it like some places do. I recently heartily enjoyed a Nicoise salad (in spite of the fact that the woman serving it to me didn't understand what I was asking for until she finally corrected me -- "nee-KOYZE". buh) Today I had a bowl of Clam Chowda (solid) and pasta salad side (a little lame -- the cucumber shouldn't sit and marinate for too long, which I think it had). They also make a breakfast sandwich that is "pretty okay!" and serve hash brown patties, which are terrible for you but nostalgic.

So I'm not from Boston and of course was shocked at the price of food while visiting this past weekend. When I saw that Rebecca's had a $3.99 breakfast special including a sandwich and coffee, I was game. You can choose from a few different types of sandwiches and get a medium sized coffee with no refills and was at mediocre at best. This place reminded me of a poor man's Panera but while perusing their lunch menu it looked like they had salads on the cheap-almost all under $8. Good place to stop while killing time before catching my train.

Rebecca's is in a super convenient location from my office. That unfortunately is the best thing I can say about it. I've eaten here way too many times, but no more. I'm done with proximity. This place has the most flavorless and bland sandwiches I have ever eaten, the oatmeal is soupy, and there's been mold in my fruit cups on multiple occasions. There's too many options in the financial district to waste time eating this food.

I come here mainly for the hot soup. They have 4-5 soups ranging from veggie, beef, or chicken chili, chicken noodle, chowders. All good and hot and hearty. You pick the cup size and serve it up yourself. Pop on a lid and grab a napkin right from the soup bar. You can get crackers when you pay. Sometimes the bottom of the pot (when I go late) and the chicken broth can be saltier than I'd like but on a cold wet dreary day it hits the spot. The lines inside can be confusing if you are not familiar with the place. There is one line right just for ordering salads. You can pick what you want made to order. Then there is another line for ordering sandwiches and another line for order hot from the buffet which can be quiche, meatloaf, and other assorted hot meals. All three lines are for ordering. Once you get your salad, sandwich or hot meal then you move to one of the two lines to pay (cash or credit card taken but running the credit card can take a few extra minutes since they share a machine). They have a variety of things in this little spot. You can grab fairly healthy items on the go from the open frig like yogurt cups, fruit cups, pre-made salads (the little ones actually are bigger than they look). They also have snacks - LOVE the Hermit cookies. They do have little tables to eat at but the space seem to busy for me to sit and relax so I always get and go. The staff is direct to get you what you order - Not rude but not so cheery either. I find the prices a bit on the high side but it is convenient and easy. Rebecca's also does catering and their do a great job in that department. The food is good, service and delivery is good, and they provide all the paper, cups, utensils etc all wrapped nice and organized which makes things so much easier.

This is for their cakes. My work gets them from either here or J.Pace's for everyone's birthdays. I always hope it's going to be Rebeccas! The BEST are the dolce de leche- it has chocolate AND vanilla cake and the caramel in it is amazing. the frosting isn't regular frosting either, and the whipped cream is home made. YUM. & the carrot patch cake (if you like carrot cake.)

This branch of the chain is almost directly across from my office building and I grab my food from here whenever I forget my lunch at home. For a lunch place, its prices are fine because their meal specials are always flavorful and hot. Whenever I walk in there is always something on the menu that stands out to me. Their soups are filling and varied. (if I get them I usually get a big cup, fill it half with chicken chili and half with whatever cream based soup they have that day) The service is fast, and it always seems like I walk out with something my mom would make. I Heart Rebecca's...and my mom.

This place is pretty good: I enjoy the tuna salad, turkey with apple, soup, and instruct-the-person-to-make-your-salad salads. I used to really enjoy getting quiche and salad as a treat, but it was always kind of rubbery, and last time I got it, it was even worse, plus it came with Caesar salad instead of plain vinagrette-dressed salad, which I didn't want. Oh- a good breakfast option is the granola-yogurt parfait, but really the only reason I go here is because it's right across the street from my office, but if I'm going to eat out for lunch, there are other places that are better.

The blue plates I've had here are nothing special. The sandwiches are pretty good and they are modestly priced for Downtown.

This is a pretty typical cafe. The sandwiches and wraps are good but a little overpriced and the food items are the same. The chicken caesar salad wrap is my favorite here but everything else is pretty much par for the course.
