This is a great place from an original N. End family. Old school/neighborhood place. This isn't your upscale, exaggerated Italian food on Hanover St. Great chicken Parm subs, quality ingredients and great old school feel.

Come to this place for authenticity, historical value, and good service.I came to visit Boston for a few days and before then I compiled a list of restaurants I wanted to go visit. Unfortunately, things didn't go how I wanted them to, so on my last day in Boston I decided to go out with my mom to see what I'd stumble into. My mom pointed this place out to me and we decided to eat here. The restaurant was out of supplies, but Anna made do with what she had and she treated us as if we were longtime friends. My mom and I greatly enjoyed the time we spent with Anna and being able to hear from a longtime Boston resident. I'm sure that there are better restaurants out there, but Sal's Lunch offers what others don't.

Nice lady behind the counter but food wasn't great. I'm not picky by any means but probably one of the least appetizing steak bombs I've ever had and I was starving. Wish I could rate higher bc the lady was so sweet but not worth the $10.

absolutely dog food. If I could I would give it 0. I am surprised this place is still up for business. There was no place to eat in the area so we had to eat at Sal’s. I would rather starve. Never go there whatever you do.

I saw four stars, I went. But one didn't realise the number and age of the reviews. Do not go.

don't waste your time here if your planning on enjoying all the great food options the north end has to offer.

The cheese was thick the bread was soggy, the waitress wizen. The atmosphere enjoyed by those who like mice

Absolutely awful human beings. Anna is a saint amongst scum. Too bad she raised white hot garbage. Kids that smoke indoors, horribly kept apartments. Grandkids that flash guns to act tough. This building should be condemned as I lived with mold and appliances that never worked. This lunch shop is a joke, I wouldn’t trust anything in this building to not give you food poisoning. Eat at own risk!!

This establishment hires people that verbally threaten and harass people on the street with zero reprecussions. Bring your hard earned money elsewhere!!
