“Can't believe I've lived in Andover since 1983 and have never been here. The adventure began with the aroma of chocolate when you walk in - amazing. I did a quick jog through the candy store and vowed to take my granddaughters here during their next visit. Next ordered lunch: chicken BLT which was so fresh. Bacon was crispy and they remembered to not add guacamole. Next came the sundae: their list in-house of flavors that are made on site doesn't match the online list (butter crunch ) but the substituted butter pecan was delicious. My only complaint of the day was that the rich, flavorful butterscotch sauce was room temp and not at all heated. All staff were friendly and attentive. Everything felt nostalgic which was so nice. I'll be back.“

You might think you're walking back in time when you step foot inside, what with all the nostalgic candy counters and throw-back displays. But don't let that fool you, this place has some incredible ice cream, including home-made options, and plenty of dairy free choices for those with certain dietary restrictions. We live a walkable distance, and nothing is more fun than walking down on a Summer Friday after work, getting a treat and taking it down to the lake. They even sell my favorite soda, Moxie, by the bottle! Because this is a small, locally owned and operated business, there is going to be a variation in the service. “DownRiver sells ice cream as well as nondairy options for those with an intolerance. The ice cream is rich and creamy and stays true to its flavoring. And the sorbets are very refreshing and smooth, the only problem i have with the ice cream is not with the dessert itself but with the portions. Even the kiddie cone is giant which is great if you want to save a little money, but is an issue when your kid can't finish it all and you end up wasting quite a but of money. The portions also make it harder to eat it all before it starts melting everywhere's. Other than that everything else is great. The service is as good as it gets, in my time going there they have never messed up an order and are kind to their customers. Some of the workers do need you to repeat your order once or twice which I find better than not getting your order right. The seating areas are all outdoors and its nice to enjoy during the summer, but can also be awful due to all the mosquitoes there are near the marsh. All together I give DownRiver 4 stars as I have deducted 1/2 a star from the gigantic portions and 1/2 a star for the mosquito prone area. Overall I would recommend stopping by if you're in the area!“

“Solid place for ice cream that just opened for the season. They were more than happy to give us a sample of one of the flavors we were interested in. They had most of the flavors when we visited at the beginning of April. I got a kiddie cookie dough and thought it was very well made. The ice cream was super creamy and the cookie dough was soft (I find that a lot of cookie dough in ice cream is too hard). The sizes run on the large side so be ready to share!“

“I stopped by The Cookie Monstah in Beverly after work. The Grand Opening for this store was advertised for Monday December 5, 2022 from 11am to 9pm on their website, Instagram, Twitter and on Facebook. I was thrilled to see their postings since I've enjoyed their handmade wicked good ice cream cookie sandwiches in Danvers and Burlington. However, when I arrived here in Beverly around 4:50, the store was still not open, but there was a few staff inside with the doors still locked. I decided to hang out at Panera Bread in the same plaza. Anyhow, The Cookie Monstah offers about 12 kinds of fresh baked cookies, milk, 24 flavors of hard scoop ice cream/sorbets, plus their handmade wicked good sandwiches or build your own (choose any 2 cookies and any ice cream) or their specialty ice cream cookie sandwiches including The Blueberry Buckle, Slim Shady, Salty Dog, Cup-o-Joe, Dough Boy, Green Monstah, Candy Shoppe, and others, $7 plus tax (in 2022). Gluten free and vegan options available. After checking The Cookie Monstah Facebook page and about to head over to the Danvers location, they posted that Beverly was now open (around 5:40 pm), yassss!!!! I moseyed over and walked in and the staff was in training with cookies made and ice cream ready. They were very gracious and offered me a Wicked Good Sandwich of my choice and I went with my favorite, The Blueberry Buckle, 2 Oatmeal Raisin Cookies with Blueberry Pie Ice Cream. This ice cream sandwich was so good which I enjoyed with my black coffee from Panera. They are open normal business hours starting on December 6, 2022.“
“End of September 2023 we are here. The business is very busy and a lot of traffic in and out. First time here and I spoke to others here today who said they love it here and the ice cream flavors. Many have been coming for years and are loyal customers. We had single scoop ice cream on a waffle cone. I used to make home made ice cream for a restaurant and know when it is flavored well. I had the cookies and cream which was chocolate ice cream, and had good flavor to it. I'm not here to eat a pint of ice cream at once so the one scoop was plentiful. About $5 for a small which is a single scoop, again plenty for me. I also picked up a doggy cup which was just under $5. But there was plenty of vanilla cream in the cup with a large cookie on top. Many places give a very small amount of cream and a small milk bone and charge $5 for a doggy bowl. There was plenty for my dog to eat. We were here for 25 minutes and counted about 30 cars in and out with loads of people waiting in line, on this cloudy and cooler afternoon. I would have to say that Benson's is doing something right to draw in this many people on a cloudy September evening. I am sorry those others have had a not so great visit. Perhaps you might take a break for a bit and come back with an open mind. You may have a better opinion.“
“Small J.P Licks located at MarketStreet in Lynnfield. There's free parking available in the plaza. There is seating available inside too. I usually get their milkshakes or Sundaes and they're delicious! Today I had the peanut butter cookies n cream milkshake and a container with 4 cookies'n'cream truffles. It was yummy :P The location is clean and well kept. The employees are also kind and offer samples when trying to decide between different flavors. I did have to wait 14 minutes today to be helped because there was only one person working. Perhaps it's because it's winter time and there's not a lot of traffic coming to the store. My suggestion would be to have two people during busy hours (typically lunch times 12-3) Not only will this enhance the customer experience but also the employees' experience because they won't feel overwhelmed. Overall great location. It's even better during the summer time when the plaza has more seating, greenery and nicer set up. They're close late at night making those summer nights even more enjoyable.“
“My friends and I were vacationing in Boston (from different parts of the US) and took a day trip to Salem. It was September and still a bit warm so by afternoon, we were looking for a nice treat. My friends had ice cream but I opted for the pecan turtles and they were WONDERFUL ♥️They were as big as my hand & so delicious. “Was craving ice cream on the way to Boston & was able to get my fix before it closed. Just for kicks, sampled the grape nut which was interesting. It tasted like soggy grape nuts so at least you don't chip a tooth; you either love it or hate it. I decided to stick to my faves, chocolate peanut butter & pistachio. The pistachio flavoring was off, a bit too pistachio-y, if that's even possible. But the chocolate peanut butter hit the spot. Hubby got the milk & cookies & that was yummy too. Business was steady with a lot of local kids, even on a cold weeknight.“
