I love stopping in O’Neil’s to hang with friends and get a meal. Great atmosphere and wonderful employees. Great staple of Salem!

I visited from Dublin, Ireland on St Patrick’s Day. I’m 50. The doorman wouldn’t let me in because all I had was Irish govt ID, not US ID. Was almost funny — the only actual Irishman at this Irish bar, denied for not being an American.

We had a great lunch. Ogie our waiter was very attentive. The food was good and reasonably priced.

Good atmosphere, good service. Food was solid. Live music was nice but if you want somewhere quiet this would not accommodate. Go for a good lively atmosphere.

When visiting Salem, I make sure to visit this Irish pub for lunch. I highly recommend the Shepherds Pie Rangoons and the Guiness Beef Stew! The Shepherds Pie is hearty and delicious. The service is friendly and quick, and there is always a rotating list of beers on tap (including local favorites).

It was all ok. The food was what I expected, the beer was crisp and clean. The acoustics were as cacophonous as I guessed.I'd come back if I were in a group of friends where you all talk loud, eat good food and drink.I dropped the food down only because it didn't stand out. It was better than ok, but lacked a little something when served as is.Otherwise I like the place, oh they have darts in the back too. Looked like they have a DJ booth too in the back

Stopped in for a pint and lunch. Sat at bar to a cold bartender.. he apparently had double duty of stocking the bar. I literally felt like i was in the way. The chicken fingers were basic and over priced. I left unimpressed. 6 chicken fingers and 2 beers = 33 + tax and tip.. ?

Fish and chips were great. Very large portions of fish. I would come back again.

Went there the other day…Bartender with the long hair and beard ignored us for a while like he couldnt be bothered and it wasnt even that busy and he was like that with everyone at the bar such a bad attitude. Wouldnt go back ..theres plenty of other places out there with way better service where they will treat you like a human. I didnt want to tip him but my friend was paying and refused to not tip. This guy was a total douche. I can only imagine how he is when its busy.

Most unfriendly place I’ve been. Boston is really not living down the “Masshole” stereotype. This bartender is the worst. So unfriendly and completely unprofessional.

I had the most unpleasant experience without even making it into the bar. My husband and I, both 39, were turned away because the bouncer refused to accept our ID cards and insisted on passports. Not only is it impractical to carry passports around, but the bouncer's rudeness was completely uncalled for. He was obviously on a power trip, as there's no reason to card individuals of our age, but his rudeness was so disgusting. You would think that during the peak tourism season, they would treat customers (or those at least trying to be customers) with more respect.

I had a great experience sitting at the bar. Minding my buisness eating my steaktips I got one stuck and started choking. The long haired bartender sprang into action. He jumped the bar and bear hugged me from behind while I still sat in my barstool. The steaktip flew out landing in my beer. Not only did he pour me a fresh beer, he cut up my steak into more reasonable bite size pieces. Not all Heros wear capes. I'll be back for sure. Make sure you say hello to my new friend if you visit O'Neils

The service here at the front end is quick to seat you and bring your drinks and appetizers. That's really where the experience begins to fall on its face. There's minimal irish food on the menu, and the menu looks as if it just got out of a cold shower........short. We received our nachos frsh from the microwave. They would have been quite the achievement if you made them at your own home at 2 am, but rather lack luster for an established resteraunt. The 6 mozzarella sticks we received as our appetizers are over 2 dollars a piece which is a little ridiculous in my opinion. There's a forced gratuity for the wait staff that will be added to the bill, which is fine. However, if the owner is charging gourmet prices for great value food, they should just properly compensate their employees that are putting on work. All in all, great service but poor food quality and price.
