Despite all of the good reviews, this place was profoundly disappointing. I had the Kung Pao chcken lunch special to go. Got home, and it was chunks of deep fried chicken, no peanuts, no chili peppers, no flavor, but there were three pieces of stale broccoli(!). Chicken, as mentioned in previous reviews, was tough and dry, obviously old and reheated. Hot and sour soup was sweetened and everything was soft, except the egg, which had hardened due to staleness, which means that it was... old. Live and learn. I went out of my way to have something different, but was not expecting something this plain awful.

We were seated served and delighted by Bobby the host / waiter. The sesame beef is a must order and uses a cut of beef I've never seen in any Chinese restaurant before. We split the wontons to open as an appetizer and they were fantastic in the broth. My wife got the Singapore fried noodles which had a Nepalese flare very good as well. You got to give this place a try!

I decided to try this restaurant for take out. Orange chicken was average, large chunks of tough chicken, no fruit of any kind on it and no sauce. The chicken was coated with a sweet sauce bit it was not enough to balance the dry tough chicken. The pork fried rice was again just average. Lots of small tough pieces of pork. Rice was not fried as much as i like it. Nothing special. Surprisingly no sweet and sour sauce or hot mustard or any other condiments or even a fortune cookie were included in the meal, which is a first for me. Also both parts of the meal were put next to each other in one container. I have never seen that done before. They should be kept separate. When i entered the restaurant to pick up the food there was a very bad smell inside. That should never happen. I will never eat there again. This place had a 4.7 rating. People have to be much more critical on their reviews. 3 is a fairer rating.

Well I had to come back to see if the food and service was as good as I thought it was the first time and I'm happy to say it was even better! I very much enjoyed the rice stick, pea pod stems and scallion pancake with beef that we ate the first time around.....this time we ordered three different dishes. The Pork and Leek dumplings were homemade, freshly steamed and very tasty. They came with a homemade dipping sauce that was also very tasty. Next time I'll try them pan fried for the extra crispy texture and flavor. We also ordered the Ma Po Tofu, a dish I have loved for many years, and their version of it here as fantastic! Very good! I love Szechuan peppercorns with it's unique flavor and mouth numbing effect so I would have preferred a bit more of that spice in this dish but I will definitely will be ordering the Ma po again! The final dish was the Black Pepper Beef. Excellent dish! Big slices of very tender beef in a delicious brown sauce with plenty of black pepper, sliced onions and green peppers. Tasty! The brown sauce was not too thick and goopy like the brown sauces at so many other Chinese restaurants. Also very important is that the steamed white rice was fresh and moist both time we ate there! Great friendly service! Make sure you ask for the Daily Special menu (see pics) to get some of the dishes mentioned above. I will definitely be coming back to try the Eggplant in Garlic sauce, the Beef dumplings, Pork with Hot Peppers, Buddah's Delight and several others!

The place was pretty good for home-cooked style meals. We ordered quite a few things but I think my favorite was their Ma Po Tofu. Their dumpling fillings were fine but the skin was too thick. The scallop in garlic sauce was great but there were more veggies than there were scallops which was kind of a downer. Their fried rice was pretty good (we got it without any vegetables though ). Their fried pork chop was pretty good too but some had really big bones on them so it was rather hard to eat. Service was great! The servers were very welcoming and friendly, ready to give their recommendations. Atmosphere was also pretty good. Overall, I'd rate it an 8.5/10 id say. Great but there's some room for improvement on the food. I'd recommend coming here with larger groups of family and friends just for a good catch up meal.

I don’t know what other reviewers had or if we just went on a bad day but the food was not so good. We ordered whole grilled fish. The fish had no meat and it was dry. It seems that they grilled the dried fish. Pretty bad. The service was no good either. The servers and the cook were just busy talking to themselves. We did not have a good meal here.

I go to Bentley University and my friends and I ALWAYS go to Shanghai Cuisine. We constantly recruit new people to bring because the food is THAT good! Their portions are so large that they can be shared among plenty of people and are very reasonably priced. Our favorites are the fried wontons, spring rolls, and rice/noodle dishes. Their vegetarian portion of the menu is also very good! They also have super cool chopsticks! The atmosphere of the restaurant is very welcoming and friendly. We love the server Echo! She is incredibly kind and welcomes us back whenever we return. We’re always super excited to see her when we go! We love chatting and catching up with her and she’s even gifted us with free spring rolls to take home, chocolates, and free drink coupons for bubble tea! Shanghai Cuisine is our favorite restaurant in the Waltham area and we can’t wait for more meals there!

This place is a gem. Delicious, tasty dishes. Bobby was awesome! He recommended the beef scallion pancake which was actually unreal. And the black pepper beef. Super tender and rich in taste.

Came here for the first time and ordered takeaway through Uber Eats. Ordered the scallion beef pancake, the fried gluten, and steamed stuffed lotus root. Total came out to around $40. What's Hot - Menu. Their menu options are pretty impressive. I rarely come across the type of selections they have on their menu, with other Chinese restaurants. For example, I don't commonly come across stuffed steamed lotus root, scallion beef pancakes, and fried bean gluten at Chinese restaurants. They have steamed fish, fried fish, a good variety of fried rice, noodles, tofu, etc... When I arrived, I heard their staff speak Chinese, which was nice. It's always more helpful for me to speak Chinese to restaurant staff, because I can be more clear. More importantly, it also tells me they have a better understanding of the food and its ingredients. - Quality. The fried gluten had wood ear mushrooms, which I don't commonly come across at other Chinese restaurants. The five-spice beef of the beef scallion pancake was tender and nicely flavored. I could taste the seasoning, which I enjoyed, as well. The green scallion pancake was tender and flakey. Definitely yummy. - Location. Pretty conveniently located in Waltham and easy to find. There's parking conveniently located close by. - Layout. I ordered takeaway, but was able to get a good look of the inside layout of the restaurant. Cliche, but nice and spacious. During this time of the pandemic, it's also helpful that the layout is not crowded. What's Not - Service. They don't seem to pay attention to their online orders. Ordered through Uber Eats and didn't get any notifications, which means they probably also don't provide updates on Uber Eats. I didn't receive any updates. I went to the restaurant around 20 minutes before the designated pickup time to check. When I arrived, I explained that I was picking up an order. One of the staff checked their computer and confirmed my name. I saw him ring up my order and take it to the kitchen. Fortunately, the restaurant had no other customers and I had not ordered many dishes and complicated dishes. I ended up waiting an additional 15 minutes for my food. Keep in mind, 2 of my dishes were cold appetizer dishes, which they probably already had preprepared. They also did not provide the utensils I asked for, when I made the order through Uber Eats. To be fair, they looked like they had just opened for the day, but that also meant they weren't busy when I sent my order. - Health and safety standards. During this time of the pandemic, it's important to maintain health and safety standards. When I arrived, I didn't see any of their staff wearing masks. It wasn't until one of their staff walked up to me, did he put on his mask. The other staff member didn't put on a mask at all, when she spoke to me. I did see several bottles of hand sanitizers by their front door. It looks like they have the right intentions, but that their individual staff may be falling short at times and need to be reminded. - Price. The scallion beef pancake is $13.95, the fried bean gluten is $9.95 and the steamed stuffed lotus root is $12.95. The scallion beef pancake and steamed lotus root are kind of pricey. To be fair, I'm not very familiar with the costs of Chinese produce in the area. However, I was a little surprised that 2 of my dishes cost what they did. Unfortunately, that means I will probably not come here often. Final Answer Am willing to come back here, but may not be a first choice.

Highly recommend the beef scallion pancake! And the restaurant too, large portions, reasonably priced, nice staff.

Being a Shanghainese myself, it's so hard to find an authentic Shanghai restaurant in New England. Shanghai cuisine is my life savior. Yoi got to meet the chef who has in the industry for 30 years. So no more. It's a 1000% to-go place around Boston!

Highly recommend. If Bobby is there, try at least one thing off the menu because he did not steer us wrong tonight when we had the beef scallion pancakes! Wow! Friendly staff, sharp service and a family-restaurant vibe. My husband and I have a new standard for Chinese food and this will be tough to beat.

Three words: Eat Here Now. The four dishes we had were fresh and cooked to perfection - seafood over fried noodles, scallion pancakes stuffed with beef, spring rolls, and sesame chicken with broccoli. Truly excellent, and reasonably priced as well. Lastly, a shout out to Bobby, the owner's friend and our server for the evening, who was a real delight. Thank you for making our visit such a joy!
