Food was amazing! Quick service in a great location! Loved the Annapolis fries - great appetizer for the family! Great prices too!

Chick and Ruth's is a memorable experience from another time. It's an old timey diner, with loads of personality. (read: not the white table cloth crowd). In another era, there may have been businessmen in pork pie hats dragging on a butt while reading the newspaper at the counter and sipping on their coffee. The decor screams it! We literally stumbled into the place while looking for. a good meal while touring Annapolis. What a find! Collosal crab cakes and mountainous milkshakes rule the day. Friendly and hard working wait staff slinging the hash! Will absolutely return.

Great spot, great food and service, reasonable prices. Got the lox plate and hubby got the crab cake Benedict—huge portions!

I’ve been coming to Maryland for the past ten years. Chick and Ruth’s Deli Crab Cakes is one of the best I’ve ever had. Part of it is the seasoning on the crab cake. If you order a crab cake dinner here, one cake is more than plenty.

We visited this restaurant for brunch and were promptly seated. The restaurant has two dining areas: one in the front, which houses the kitchen and bar, and another on the upper level. We were seated on the lower level, which was quite crowded and noisy. The place shows its age, but it's interesting to see the displayed memorabilia and learn about its history. Our server inquired if it was our first visit, offered a warm welcome, and provided some recommendations. She allowed us ample time to peruse the extensive menu, which boasts a wide variety of options. The service was efficient, and she also brought us a tub of pickles as a snack while we awaited our food. We ordered the Colossal Crab Cake and Creamed Chipped Beef. The Colossal Crab Cake lived up to its name, both in size and flavor. However, the Chipped Beef on Toast was a letdown, as it was primarily creamy with minimal meat and lacked flavor.

I arrived around 10:30am on a Thursday. I was greeted immediately and was told I could sit anywhere (you seat yourself). Netty was my server. She was kind and attentive and checked on me throughout my meal. Every employee I had an interaction with was friendly and personable. I ordered the pastrami reuben with fries. Unfortunately, I wasn't offered a bin of pickles like everyone else. Bummer! Pickles are my favorite, and I definitely would have chowed down. The food came out in no time at all. The sandwich and fries were delicious. The pastrami was fresh and there was plenty of sauerkraut. There was just enough dressing as well. It wasn't spilling out of the sides. The fries were crispy and piping hot. I enjoyed my lunch, sitting in my window seat and people watching. The area I was sitting in (immediately to the left when you enter the restaurant) has three 4-top tables. There are also tables to the right when you enter the restaurant. The sandwich was filling, so I opted to take the other half and the rest of my fries home for lunch the next day. I ordered the fudgy super brownie with walnuts to go. It was great! The brownie was soft and had plenty of walnuts. By the time I left the restaurant around 11:30am, the place was starting to fill up. Their regular menu is huge. There is truly something for everyone. This restaurant was also featured on Man v. Food and has several food challenges to try if you're bold and have the stomach capacity for it! I enjoyed my lunch so much that I opted to place an order to have for dinner later that night. I ordered the Eggel (sausage egg cheese bagel) and delly potatoes to go. The delly potato container was overflowing with potatoes. They were seasoned well. The Eggel was really good. It came with two sausage patties, so you got sausage with each bite. There was plenty of cheese and the bagel was fresh. Overall, I would certainly return. Their food was great, their regular menu features a ton of options, and the servers were very friendly. I can see why this spot is so popular.

I was disappointed with the service. My server, Amber W. had an attitude to begin with. I ordered corned beef has well done. The corned beef was not well done. I asked to send it back and she said it wasn’t possible. I then asked for another portion. She insisted that I wanted the hash brown well done not the corned beef. I told her that was a mistake. She didn’t take care of me. Oh well.

For a tiny diner, the breakfasts were awesome!!! The prices were so reasonable! It gets crowded in there. But, the waitresses were efficient and the service was quick.

Chick and Ruth’s is part of the history of modern Annapolis. Chick a d Ruth have passed, but their legacy lives on in their wonderful deli an B&B. This place is where you go for crap cake and deli sandwiches. Fabulous!! Breakfast, lunch, and dinner, all terrific. The B&B is equally well done. Top notch rooms. Only drawbacks are 20 step staircases to each floor and WiFi and television that didn’t work for us, but a small price to pay for a perfect location, food, and help from the manager, Ena! Great experience!

Our family tried this restaurant due to the good reviews online, but we were extremely disappointed. Dirty, shabby place with terrible food. Waitstaff argued in front of customers. I would never return or recommend this place to others. Go elsewhere!

Service was great! Very tight seating . More like an old diner feel . I only had omelette and potato on the side . Wasn’t crazy about the potatoes asked for extra crispy didn’t come like that . They put onions in them also im not an onion fan so didn’t eat them. But would definitely go back for breakfast or lunch .

I'm going to break this review into four parts (because my rating varies): Service, Food, Price/Value, Environment. Service: 5-Our server was first rate. She was very knowledgeable about the menu, efficient yet, personable, and checked on us 2-3 times. Food: 5-I ordered the fried clams appetizer($8.99) and a side salad ($6.99); he ordered the 1/2 lb. burger w/ no cheese ($10.99), fries ($3.99), and a beer ($3.99) and our wait wasn't long at all. I thought my clams were quite good. (I've been wanting some fried clams for over a year now and just haven't been at the right place at the right time, so now I'm a happy little clam-ha!) He thought his burger and fires were also good. My salad was nothing special, but I did have them hold the onion and green pepper, leaving only the tomato and cucumber (I would have liked it more with some cheese on it). Actually, I shouldn't have even ordered it because the appetizer was enough for me (I'm not that big of an eater to begin with and the portion of clams was fairly generous, I thought). Price/Value: 4-Overall, I thought prices were reasonable (maybe a little high for the salad), and the quality of food was definitely there. Environment: 2-Here's where the rating falls off. Maybe the cramped space is supposed to add to the charm of the place, but to us, it just added to the tight feeling. We had to wait about 20 minutes for a table, even though there were empty seats (apparently because they wouldn't seat the 2 of us at a 4-top despite there being numerous empty seats available). Once we were seated, we were VERY GLAD no one else was seated in the other two seats beside ours as we would have been touching elbows (you have to get the picture that each "booth" is a set of two 2-tops). Additionally, there's no air conditioning in the place (& it was 90° outside--perhaps more inside). The whole NY deli atmosphere is part of the advertised allure, I'm sure; as well as is the fact that they bake their own pastries, make great milkshakes (by the looks-we didn't try one), and have an extensive menu for reasonable prices. I know they can't easily expand nor renovate, but a little AC would go a long way to help make the dining experience a little more pleasant.

This feels like a local’s secret… amazing food, huge menu, huge portions, and great service. We went for breakfast and had the homemade corned beef hash and it was amazing!

What can I say? I really wanted to love this restaurant. I think it’s more of an institution of Annapolis yet it’s also a tourist trap. We thought it was an expensive lunch. The interior is old crammed diner experience. The menu is varied and the food is nothing special. First our service was excellent. I ordered the fried shrimp and it tasted not like whole fresh shrimp but frozen minced shrimp. It came hot as were my fries. My husband ordered a sandwich, it was a number, that essentially is a club. One layer was a crab cake that he said wasn’t good. However the shrimp salad layer was very good and contained medium whole sized shrimp. I guess if you want to experience it, you go like we did. I just won’t recommend it and won’t return should I go back to visit Annapolis.
