Great selection of Filipino baked goods, and an Ube and Pandan-lover’s dream. The donut was fresh, with a nice crust. The cream was smooth and light, though the pandan flavour was quite subtle.I loved the Baked Siaopao, a slightly flaky bread filled with pulled pork and egg.I bought the Ube Pan de Sal as well, and am so excited to try it!

Almost left the Rockville area without visiting Gwenie's but I had a sudden craving for halo halo on an unseasonably warm day. It's a short walk from Twinbrook Metro and well worth the visit! The store is very small with no seating but there's a bench outside where I ate my halo halo. Most people drive in to pick up their baked goods. The halo halo was larger than I expected. It comes in a bowl with ube shaved ice, fruit gelatins, a tiny cube of leche flan, some other sweets, and a sprinkling of corn flakes! Perfect on a warm sunny day!

I love Filipino deserts, but I was extremely dissatisfied and disappointed with Gwenie’s. When I paid $10 for a Halo-Halo and it was not drinkable I was unhappy. I have never in my life got Ube ice cream and they put corn flakes cereal on the top. The Ube donut was mediocre. They need to fix the prices of their menu if they want customers to return. UNHAPPY!

A little pricey but worth the money and drive. Donuts are filled well and the dough is really good quality. Customer service was friendly and shop was clean. Will definitely be back!

So many Filipino desserts!! I came here from Arlington, VA by metro specifically for the ube halo halo. Worth it!It's a sizeable dessert & costs about $10. I couldn't finish it all. It's made with shaved ice?, which is unique. The shaved ice was so smooth, almost the consistency of firm, but creamy ice cream. The toppings were traditional. Highly recommend. The cashier was very nice. Everything is to go, & there isn't a dine in area. But the cashier let me sit on the small bench inside to eat my halo halo.I also bought an oval Leche flan, which I'll contribute to a small gathering in a few days. Cost $8. Probably could feed a small party of 6 people. The cashier said it will keep in the fridge for 1 week, which is perfect.

Really welcoming energy - The cakes are so fluffy, buttery, and not overly sweet! They have a really good selection of different options of goodies. The Pastillas De Leche are one of my favorites. Very accessible and there's plenty of parking.

Absolutely delicious desserts, I highly recommend the donuts and the ube flan cake.Service is quick and friendly even when dealing with an indecisive buyer like me.The lobby is small with minimal decor, but still very welcoming! They usually have a sample of one of their desserts to your right as you enter which is a delight.

Delicious Ube cake that isn't too sweet. While I was too stuffed for dessert at Purple Patch and missed out on Gweni's Pastries, I'm glad I got to try them at the holiday market in Mosaic District in Northern VA. Will try other goodies like the donuts at the store!

This Phillipino Bakery establishment has been around for a very long time. They used to be combined with KuyaJa Lechon Belly which is owned by the brother. This owner of this establishment separated. Here is why I rated this place 5 stars and the Food is amazing.1. Ambiance is simple and small.2. All their Ube bakeries is on point. Very light, not too sweet or sugary, and extremely tasteful. 3. The front staff is super friendly and extremely helpful. I felt like a deer standing inside because I don't normally eat cakes and not a fan of deserts. However, after tasting their Philippino bakery style, I'm truly blown away! 4. The staff that took my bakery order on the phone was 200% nice. They truly have amazing customer service. 5. Got their Pandang cake 5 stars.6. Got their dozen assorted cupcakes with Ube, Mango and Chocolate 5 stars. 7. Got their Ube pie 5 stars.8. You pay for what you get. If you want overly sweet pastries that can give you several tooth fillings go to Giant or Safeway. The price for what you pay is about the quality and the quality is on point. 9. They do an amazing job with birthday cakes. 10. Don't forget they do Pandang which is extremely popular in Asian pastries. Overall, is the hype on Yelp and other reviews correct? Or are they exaggerated? Nope! This bakery place is a hidden gem and truly Gwenie's Pastries is a must try for everyone. Even if you're not a UBE fan try their mango and Pandang cake. If you are looking for really good Asian bakery or desserts. You need to try this place. It is definitely what every Yelp is saying on here!

Their best-selling ube cheesecake, while having great color and texture, actually lacked ube flavor. The pandan cake is the better choice because it at least had discernible pandan flavor. Both are on the expensive side, each being over $8 a slice.

Sweet tooth tales told by Gwenie’s are featuring tropical Filipino flavors(Pandan, Ube, and Brazo De Mercedes) fusion with quality pastries! I love all of them, finished the Ube Pie first w dense purple yam grainy taste, not so sweet. Panda-cream filled donut and Brazo de Mercedes are so fluffy, on the sugary tasty side, but hey it’s gonna satisfy you for a while without missing them ;) very cute and neat store, will be back for sure☝️
