3.5 stars, decent food, high price, no rice, moderately nice. Chicken was fatty, my girl wasn’t happy with daddy-meh

This seems to be a "real Korean" restaurant. There is a menu full of interesting choices. There is a lot of food with whatever option you choose. I went for lunch. There was a "lunch special." But, there wasn't anything special about the lunch menu prices. It was priced like any of the dishes on the regular menu. The service was nothing special as well. There were some older ladies working there who greeted me enthusiastically. But, they mostly disappeared after that. I reviewed the menu and waited longer than I wanted to place my order. I kept it simple with a Bibimbap. I've had many in my life. This one was OK. I've had better. It came with a bowl of rice and four (4) Banchan. Banchan are side dishes of vegetables. Those were good. I like the idea of Banchan. I ate my food. No one came to ask me if it was good, or if I needed anything. I finished and waited for too long for the bill. Finally, I stood up and signaled to one of the ladies. I didn't want to wait any longer. I got my coat and walked over to the cash register. I really did not think that a tip was deserved. I would go back to try some other things.

Hwagae Jangteo is indeed an age-old restaurant, with both the proprietor and the establishment itself showing signs of the passage of time. While the aged appearance might be considered a drawback, it holds its own as a worthwhile dining spot in Rockville.

I have been eating at this restaurant for many years and the service has gotten worse and worse. There are even limits on the complimentary side dishes.

Great food and service for authentic Korean food. It's a bit pricy but it's worth it. Provides decent portion size and has okay side dishes that come with the meals. The parking lot is a hellscape. They are tight and when it gets busy it's a long wait to get out.

I ordered two spicy codfish stewes and 4 servings of Galbi for take out. And I picked them up myself.(Total paid $ 223.07)But they made me pay for the to go containers. ($ 3 dollers and some)I've never paid for take out container at any Korean restaurant.( Of course I know that I have to pay for left over food containers. )I had to take out the food because of my 80 years old Mom who couldn't walk very well. The waitress was very unkind. If you want to eat Galbi, I hope you go to the restaurant to eat it and tip them. It must have been so annoying for them to wrap it up.For your consult, if you take out barbecue, they don't wrap side dishes such as lettuce, pickled radish, onions, etc

Went for a weekday lunch. The soon dubu stew was flavorful and not too oily on top. Not served with an egg to crack in, like most places that serve this stew. The spicy seafood noodle soup had a good balance of noodles, seafood, and veg. The banchan side dishes were well seasoned, and their radish kimchi was the stand out. Service was on par with many typical korean restaurants. They have a button at each table that can be pushed for service/ assistance. I feel it was a good sign that there were a lot of Korean folks eating there. I would go back.

Great Korean BBQ, but really everything here is solid. I particularly like the cold bibimbap in summer, light and flavorful.
