When it comes to hoagies - Go big or go home. Perfect Philly style hoagie, on good bread and hot peppers. Perfection in Maine.

Finally, a place in Maine that knows how to make an Italian hoagie! We’ll be back! Often! To all you other Maine sandwich shops selling “Italians” using American ham on only the bottom half of a roll, you can learn something from Salvatore’s!

Best authentic Philly subs in Maine. So many great options, choosing one is the only frustrating part of the experience. Go see Sal!

I was craving a proper Italian hoagie and miraculously we found Salvatore’s. (Tip: a bit hard to find, search for Howie’s pub, and if you’re coming off hwy 295, hang a rt on veranda st and pull into driveway on the rt). Owned and run by a cool wife and husband team, who bake their own bread and use high quality meats, my craving was ? satisfied. Large soft sesame roll overflowing w meat, cheese and veggies, paired w a basket of mozz sticks, was plenty for the 2 of us.

Top tier sandwiches on all fronts! Their cutlets are absolutely excellent and are paired with great complimentary ingredients, The Italian is a proper Italian sandwich made with care, and the turkey BLT and others round out the roster very well. Plus the bread is amazing! My favorite sandwich in Portland without question. They’re a little on the pricey side, but huge and can easily be split between two people for lunch.

I’ve had really excellent sandwiches from them before - some of the best in Portland. However they’ve stopped including any vegetarian options, or even their tuna, on the menu…so I’m not able to order from them anymore. Disappointing. Wish they had more options.

Stumbled upon Salvatore's when looking for a new sub shop in Portland. Can hands down say this was the best Italian I've ever gotten in this area. Definitely not the "classic" italian that us Mainers are familiar with, but a much more deluxe and delightful version. 10 out of 10 would recommend, will be back to try the cheesesteak very soon!

Great local spot with cold beer and surprisingly tasty food. Really nice people too. Nothing fancy but for a casual bite after a busy day it's perfect.

Really dig this place. Cocktails come in a tall glass with a small price tag. That's always a winning combo. They have very basic bar food made by the bartender (pizza, fries etc.) Definitely nothing fancy, but the service was great and prices excellent. Will definitely return.

This place needed an updated review... Good beer but not any Pilsners. However, the BLT sandwich came with cheese balls, cheese balls!!! That was awesome. Nice local atmosphere. The quesadillas were also decent. It's small but if you're staying close by, it's worth a stop. The regulars were friendly...

Tried to stop by here recently for a quick beer with my boyfriend, as it is right down the road from my house. Hours say they're open until 1. We walked in at 9:40pm and were greeted with a very abrupt, strong, harsh "WE'RE CLOSED." We were confused as there were clearly several people in the bar drinking, including someone grabbing a drink at the bar when we walked in. So I said "oh I'm sorry, is this a private event?" And the bartender said "no. We close at 10." Sooo, you're not closed then? The entire exchange was very confusing, and we were made to feel like we were intruders, so instead of prolonging the "discussion" we just left. The whole exchange just put a bad taste in my mouth. There are plenty of other dive bars in the city that are much more welcoming than this one. Too bad, I've heard great things, but based on this interaction, I definitely won't be going back.
