My giving the current version of The Union 3-Stars is being generous and reflects its prior 4+ status for me (I might have actually rated it as a 5-Star in the past -- but its status is plummeting so quickly that I've lost sight of that potential). In fact, I'm tempted to give it 2-Stars but...again, being generous. Ultimately, VERY disappointed with the re-opened/new menu Union Restaurant brunch experience to the point that, after a dozen or so visits over the years, I don't anticipate another. Key points: the food selection, quality and volume have dropped precipitously. In the past, having seen dinner meals that were quite expensive (and never partaken), I was impressed by the relatively inexpensive brunch experience. However, the prices have bumped up while the rest of the experience has declined. In addition, the service I received two visits ago was very disappointing. Despite the above-mentioned Key Points at that time, I thought I'd give it another try -- and though they remained (and may have actually been worse this most recent time), at least the service reached its previously impressive levels. Too bad: it had become my go-to brunch spot but it's time to pursue other options...

Unfortunately we did not experience the same magnificent meal we did last time we ate there. Squash was refrigerator cold on half the plate and a hair past warm on the other half. Risotto was like licking a salt shaker. Disappointed does not do it justice. Atmosphere was not what I remember from the last time I was there either. Take this as you will….i HATE leaving a bad review. Unfortunately they earned it. I absolutely loved it last time I went…what hapoened???

We went for valentines dinner last night, our first time at Union. We were told that the restaurant was being renovated and it was moved temporarily into the Lobby of the Hotel. The seating was fine in the lobby and it was quiet. The service was outstanding from a young lady who's name I do not remember. The food, unfortunately was a great let down.My starter of $7 popcorn was lightly seasoned an tasty. My date ordered the Lettuce salad, she commented it was barely seasoned and had little flavor.I got the scallop risotto, I asked for the scallops to be coocked a little more well done, our server said no problem - however the dish lacked any significant flavor. My wife said her mussels were good.We got the apple tart and creme brulee for desserts, they were not a sharing size.Overall great service, but the food was bland, small portions and pricey, glad went once - but would not go back.

We had dinner reservations before a show at the Merrill. Traffic suggested we would be late. I called to let them know and the woman on the phone, perhaps a recent immigrant, couldn’t have been kinder or more reassuring! We arrived to find the dining room was being refurbished and the lobby had been transformed into the dining area. An additional distance from the kitchen, the wait staff was HUSTLING! It was wonderful to observe their camaraderie and assisting each other during the pre-show rush. Our server, Hannah, could not have been kinder or more accommodating! The food was wonderful in its presentation and even better in its taste. My husband had the seafood (Cod) special and I enjoyed the scallops! Everything about the experience was perfect!

Friendly service, cute vibe, and nice ambiance. Food was mediocre though. The lobster roll was okay and heavily sauced, kinda disappointing compared with many other places in Portland that offer lobster roll ; fish and burger were okay as well. The desert goat cheese crème brûlée did not have a noticeable goat cheese flavor but a salty and sweet flavor instead. Weird. Really mediocre place. Again, nice ambiance but not worth what you pay

Great food and nice vibes. I don't usually care for drinks, but this restaurant made some of the best cocktails I have ever experienced while traveling.

Expensive for the quality and portion sizes. Especially when comparing apps being larger but cheaper... And entrees pricier yet smaller...

Fantastic food and great ambience in a restaurant adjoining the Press Hotel. There's always a fish option or 2, a chicken, a beef dish. Menu changes periodically, but everything is really delicious and presented beautifully.

Our bartender Alana was amazing! The drinks were fabulous. Full bar and she didn't miss a beat. Continuously worked with a smile and was very pleasant. Will go back for sure.

You’ll find the Union Restaurant inside the upscale Press Hotel. Just like the Press does not disappoint you can expect the same from Union. We just went for our third time and had some of the best food we have tried here. My fiancée and I made our visit here last year to celebrate our engagement. This year we returned to celebrate our anniversary of that! The atmosphere and overall ambiance/vibe is perfect for a date night dinner or even just a gathering of friends for drinks/food. It has the upscale feel without being overly pretentious. Firstly we started with the cider braised pork belly (if it’s on the menu then do yourself a favor and order it to try). Secondly my fiancée got the duck breast entree and I got the pork shoulder pasta entree. Both were phenomenal and would be instant choices if they appear next time we come in. The duck entree was on the smaller side but oooooo so tasty! Finally we finished with a apple/cranberry tartlet and a chocolate/hazelnut to split both as desserts. The prices are higher than some other spots but for what the dishes are and what this place is the prices are what I’d expect. The only questionable pricing was the market price of the 28oz porterhouse for $129 considering last year they had a 38oz for around $125. Besides that I would say this is a must try spot in the crowded/ever growing Portland food scene.
