I had gotten a product that I was dissatisfied with from Scratch recently and low and behold Scratch did the right thing and refunded my money to my credit card account - without me asking them to do it. My confidence and admiration for Scratch Baking Company has been justified. This is the best place in greater Portland to get baked goods, sweet goods, breads, etc..I recommend Scratch Baking Company not only for the quality of the products they bake, but for their business model - It's nice to see a company with "old fashioned ethics"!!

Was disappointed when we arrived on a Sunday at 10:30 am and they were out of many of their menu items – they still had their coffees, but the only bagels left were plain and sesame and the only pastry/sweet left was a raspberry shortbread. Note that they do not slice or toast the bagels. But, what we did get (sesame bagels with cream cheese, raspberry shortbread, coffee and an Arnold Palmer) were very good. There is a walk-up window to order/pay, then you wait outside the door for your order. There are no tables to eat at. There is also an online order/pay option. There is street parking.

one bun was not enough to take with us up north. also a dozen bagels. this is a walk up window at this time but they limit the bagels to two dzn per family. we saw a man walk up and order two dzn. later in the line his wife walked up and ordered two dzn bagels. Funny to try to beat the system buying bagels. They made out like they did not know each other so customers would not get upset. We saw them drive away together. But the bagels are great as are all the other items. We have a knive in the car and we bought cream cheese and we were all set to go on our way. This is a great place for fresh bread as well. Go here and it is a true Gem.

At present time the establishment offers a walk up window. You can order ahead of time on line which is apparently a MUST. We visit Scratch every time we come to Maine and the baked goods are always solid. This time was no different, at least the VERY limited items we were able to try. You were unaware of the magnitude of online orders as we are just visitors and when we arrived to get bagels at 8:30 am we were informed they were all sold out. Schooling as the window opens at 7. We were told that do to the holiday weekend most items were already gone. The limit for bagels is two dozen per family and once they are gone for the day they are gone! So it appears that the only way to score some is to place an online order as they do not ensure that some remain for same day walk up customers. One would think that they would have prepared more as they can see the demand via the online orders but that is not the case.

Was looking for a great bagel and saw this bakery on TripAdvisor had great ratings.....it did not disappoint. The bagels were a perfect combination of crisp outside and chewy but not too dense inside. My husband who is very particular about his bagels has not stopped talking about them. I also tried their home made ring dings.....definitely worth the calories and our dogs loved their home made dog biscuits. Will definitely go back and try more things. I recommend ordering online as it gets busy and may run out of things. The day I ordered they had only one sesame bagel left. You can specify your pickup time and there is a separate window for pickup.
Damn, I just had the best beet salad of my life. And the chicken salad wasn't far behind. This place is a gem!

We stopped here for snacks after wandering around town, and wow! Absolutely amazing! Their cinnamon rolls are the perfect balance of sweet, gooey, and not overwhelming to the senses, their bagels are chewy without falling apart, and the breads are flavorful and filling. We ended up buying extra to take home with us.

Love their large cinnamon rolls. Not too sweet. No gooey icing. Great coffee and hot cider as well as other pastries. Get there early.

This is a very good bakery in a residential neighborhood. My favorite item here is the olive oil cake. It is like an olive oil loaf with lemon peel, orange peel and almonds. It is super moist and satisfying without being overly sweet. Their peanut butter cake was also very good. They have a few comfy chairs to sit outside and enjoy your goods. They also serve coffee and tea.
