“The food and service were top tier! I ordered the short rib and my fiancé ordered the branzino. Both dishes were immaculate. The drinks were so good, well balanced and left us with a buzz! lol Our server was funny, welcoming, and attentive. They comped our valet so we didn’t have to struggle to find parking like most restaurants downtown. Our reservations were for 6pm on a Sunday and we were nearly the only ones in the restaurant. No clue why this place isn’t packed every night. It truly is a gem!“

The staff inside are welcoming, knowledgeable, true professionals. You never have to worry about poor or indifferent service here. Here are a few bonuses: Frank Sinatra ate there. Ask where his booth was. There is a wonderful cigar bar on the third floor with a billatds table. Best restaurant in downtown Detroit, no questions!Vegetarian options: I'm a vegetarian and my husband is not. When we go during happy hour, I get a baked potato and he gets filet mignon. “I've been here twice and both times were so fun. I found the bartenders to be a delight. Our last bartender was knowledgeable about cocktails and made us things not on their menu. It is small but that's part of the charm. The lobby of the hotel is also a cool vibe so when people complain about sitting out there,I don't get it. I would only be annoyed being a hotel guest and NOT being able to sit in the lobby. The drinks aren't cheap but it's for sure a fun stop.“

“We had not been to the Caucus Club in 40 years. We will not wait that long to return. An exceptional dinner. The room is elegant and very comfortable. The tables are nicely spaced so you are never too close to your fellow diners. Antonio was our waiter and the service was excellent - half empty glasses immediately refilled and dirty dishes quickly removed. Antonio prepared a table side Caesar salad that was both light and delicious. I had scallops and my wife had chicken Scallopini. The scallops were perfectly cooked and my wife said it was the best chicken she remembers eating. For desert my wife had a chocolate torte that was otherworldly. Just a fantastic dinner. Unbeknownst to us, a jazz trio plays on Saturday evenings - a piano, stand up bass and drum. They were excellent and the music truly elevated the experience. We stayed an extra 20 minutes just listening to the trio. All the way home we talked about how wonderful our evening had been. Great food, fantastic service, elegant room, soulful jazz and a warm, comfortable ambience = exceptional evening. My new favorite restaurant.“

Some things I never would have thought to try have been incredible (carrot tostadas have no business being this good). “Aptly named, Standby is still the best restaurant + cocktail bar in Detroit. Whenever I'm downtown, I'm hard pressed to choose to go elsewhere because I just honestly would prefer to be here. The cocktails are consistently spectacular, and the rotating food menu is always enticing and delicious. I also consistently receive exceptional service. Top this off with an immaculate vibe, and you've got the makings of, well, a standby. I've come with family to celebrate birthdays, with friends to toast to a promotion, with my husband for an intimate date night, and solo when I just wanted to treat myself. Because of the seasonal menu rotations, there is always something new and interesting to sip or bite. A constant cocktail on the menu that I highly recommend is called the Snake in the Grass. But the best cocktail I had here was called the Black Beretta and was made with clementine sherbet and black sesame - outstanding! I also love that they have a rotating "break-even bottle" - where you can get a taste of typically pricey pours of whiskey, tequila, etc. for just as much money as it costs for them to break even on the bottle.“

The food was delicious and well prepared. My favourite dish was the carbonara gnocchi and duck breast. I would’ve loved to give this place a 5 star but the service was not great considering we were the only ones at the restaurant. Every time a plate was brought to our table, the server would already be walking away, while describing the contents of the dish. When we would wave the server down to ask a question, he never fully stopped at our table and didn’t wait to see if we had any other questions. He just walked away. Overall, I would come back again since their menu changes seasonally and the food was extremely tasty.“

But she was very nice and attentive ❤️They had bread or baguette and bread but was not homemade and wanted to charge $3 dollars for another small basket of bread. No oil or garlic and bread was not warm. The meals were excellent but portions very small again (pasta is cheap). A friend of mine said she went home and ate again. I felt embarrassed because I picked this place. The meals we had were not cheap. Drinks were all good. Oh ya the other thing they charge $6 if you don’t want their home salad for caesar. WOW we were all shocked ?. The chocolate lava cake was amazing . Hope they make some changes and then I will be back. Otherwise, Spagos is down the street and am never disappointed there ever.“

One of our favorite dishes was the Manchurian (cauliflower) very flavorful and delicious! Definitely a must have. I also ordered spicy chicken vindaloo. When I received the vindaloo, it was a thin consistency and not very spicy. I informed the server, he did not hesitate to make it right. When my vindaloo returned, it was incredible.
