I drove 20 minutes to Tea Gather to find a handwritten sign that says, "closed today, see you tomorrow."

A great place to pick up some bubble tea! I walked past this place a couple times, and it took me a minute to figure out if it was the downstairs or upstairs business (it's the downstairs). When we wandered in, there were a few people hanging out and chatting, and the space was clean. It was a good vibe. We ordered an apple bubble tea and an almond bubble tea. Fruit teas, especially green apple, have the tendency to be too sweet, but they hit it spot on. The almond tea was also the perfect sweetness without having to tell them to reduce the sugar levels. Ordering was straightforward and easy, and the woman behind the counter told me about the reward system I could set up using Clover. I'll absolutely look forward to coming back here again. There are quite a few bubble tea franchises popping up, but it's nice to see something that's just it's own unique thing done well.

Swift and prompt service, very pleasant and friendly! I got the Taro Smoothie with Herbal Jelly, and a crab rangoon appetizer. Although I got my order to-go, there is lots of space for seating is provided inside, as well as some on the patio! Highly reccomend.

They have the best bubble tea and basil fried chicken in Michigan! I love their brown sugar boba, it's so creamy and rich milky flavor. And definitely always get a basil fried chicken, authentic Taiwanese flavor, very tasty!

Im really upset and dont plan on supporting a business that is ran like this. The girl at the counter got my order wrong which was fine everyone makes mistakes but i was in disbelief that because my order was wrong the owner made the girl at the counter pay for my drinks then made me a new drink. I watched the girl swiper her own card and tell me it was okay because she made a good tip. It is so wrong that they made the younger girl who made a simple mistake have to pay for it and so sorry they treat there works like this highly disappointing.

Great place to hang and relax. Lots of seating options. The place is in the back so it was it took a while to find the place. A star was removed because I only wanted to order the cutlet but the lady said I had to order a drink as well. My friend was going to order her drink (since I didn’t want anyways) but she said it wasn’t allowed. Wasn’t too happy about that. It would be great if they had a side of fries and rice. Would come back if the policy changes. Came on a Thursday around 5:45 and there wasn’t too much of a crowd.

I originally visited Tea Gather a couple of weeks after they first opened back in early 2021. I was super excited to visit - it was a new boba shop after all, and in addition, I believe this was the only place (and still is the only place) in Metro Detroit that served 雞排 ji pai (jumbo fried chicken cutlet). Unfortunately, I found their boba to be especially hard and their cutlet to be soggy and oily on that visit. I decided to go again recently since I figured it could have just been some opening week jitters and/or trying to start a successful business during the height of the pandemic. I walked in after lunch on a weekend and found a couple of people lounging around and sipping on their drinks. I took a quick look at the menu again and I tried ordering the cutlet but I was told that they were out. I replaced it with the basil popcorn chicken and found out they also didn't have any basil. Flummoxed again, I had to go with the popcorn chicken without basil. Classic Milk Tea, Large, Half Sweet, Half Ice w/ Boba ($5.65) - I feel like they changed the recipe for this drink from my previous visit. Before, I have in my notes that they used pu-er, giving the drink a very earthy and woody taste. This drink on the other hand didn't have nearly the same flavor notes and was very muted in comparison. Instead, the flavor seemed to mostly come from the sugar syrup they use - a kind of caramelized smokiness. The sweetness level is still quite high even at half, at least for me. The boba this time was quite good - almost the ideal texture, with a bouncy and chewy exterior and a firmer interior. Popcorn Chicken without Basil ($8.75) - They hand make this to order so it take a bit of time. I could hear pounding and frying noises coming from the kitchen as this was being made. The chicken smelled amazing when it first came out - I will never get tired of that pepper and five spice fragrance. The chicken itself is tender and juicy thigh meat, with some skin and fattier portions adding additional richness. The exterior has a thin and delicate crisp from the fried sweet potato starch. We got this medium spicy, which added a mouth warming tingle. I think they might use shichimi for the spicy. There was actually quite a bit more white pepper added that I am used to in this dish and while there are usually some sweet and soy notes imparted on the chicken by the marinade, I couldn't really detect those flavors here. I think the boba at Tea Gather is in the top quartile of boba shops in Metro Detroit. If I lived nearby, this would definitely part of my regular rotation. As it stands though, I can only visit once in a while when I happen to be in the area.

The place is nice and clean and has some games that people can use. Staff is friendly. The drinks and food are good. (Although the matcha in the matcha tea isn't the best, but still not bad). The only reason why I'm giving a low rating is because every time we order any kind of milk tea like Taro latte or banana milk.. etc) even though it's supposed to be a large (only comes one size) the cup is always filled 3/4! It sucks because the drink is good but you definitely don't get the amount that you've paid for. (Check photos for proof)... We thought it was a fluke a couple of times but it's always like this.

Here's the TLDR: The owner screams at employees in front of customers, and sticks his hands in customer's faces and yells at them.Went in with my 4 year old and 7 year old, ordered a large strawberry smoothie split in two for them. Employee agreed, I said thank you. Owner then screamed at employee and when handing my drinks to me he got in my face while I was holding my 4 year old and essentially yelled at me. Won't be back, I recommend spending your money at the other bubble tea place not but a mile away where they treat their employees and customers with respect. Feel really bad for the employee, I'm tempted to drive back and offer him $500 to quit on the spot not gonna lie. Disgusted.
