Tucked away in a plaza on 8 mile, but known if you love sweets. Lana's has an assortment of cakes and decadent sweets. I purchased a whole strawberry cake and two mini cheesecakes. Have you ever had something so delicious that you have to savor the taste? That is what I felt when I tried the Oreo Cheesecake and I'm not a cheesecake lover. It was rich with just enough Oreos to capture the flavor of the actual cheesecake. Cake! Cake! Cake! That's how humongous the whole cake was. It was enough for 20+ slices. You could tell it was made with love as there were pieces of strawberries in the strawberry cake with strawberry icing. It was delicious warmed up Alas, I've been to Lana's a couple of times but this was a goodbye visit since Lana was retiring. The bakery was closing that day for good, so I got to try the sweet treats one more time. Not sure if they'll still sell slices at the Harbortown Meijer or not. If they do then check them out.

I am sad to say but I am DONE with Lana's Bake Shop. I have ordered the German Chocolate Cake for family affairs - birthdays, Holidays and for a repast for a friend. I gave them a pass on the Caramel cake because it did not have caramel frosting it had a very thin caramel glaze. Ordered a cake for my sister's b'day gathering for Saturday only to arrive at Lana's to be told that they did not have an order from me. There wasn't even a German Chocolate cake in the glass cake plates where I could have at least purchased a couple of slices. This is one of her favorite cakes. I try very hard to support small local businesses but this is the "icing on the cake" for me. I got left scrambling for an alternative. And they want you to pay in advance??? I might also add that the level of service has also degraded over the years and the cake slices have increased in price but decreased in size.

Everything I've gotten so far has been delicious, however, they could use a lesson in customer service. The young lady dealing with me had an unpleasant disposition and was short. I paid for my order in cash. Before she even attempted to count it she said with attitude "is this exact change"? It was. On my way to leaving I said to have a nice day. She barely responded and when she did it was forced. While I'll probably still frequent them, a little more pleasantry can go along way.

Find the Bucharest Grill and go inside. On the right is a counter for Lana's Bake Shop. I see in some of the previous reviews they mention the belief that it's black owned. I don't care if it's black-owned or green-owned or tutti-frutti-owned; the cake we had was delicious and I'll go there again in a heartbeat. The young lady behind the counter, Saturday, August 21 at about 5 PM, was so polite and friendly and helpful. And how about this -- she smiled. Take a look the next time you go into a business and see if your serviceperson smiles at you. We had the coconut cake and it was delicious. We also got a serving of the banana pudding cheesecake. The serving size of the cake was enormous and fed two of us and we had to fight that down. Kudos to the people involved in this business. I wish them continued success. Next time we're going to try the strawberry cake, that looks scrumptious.
