I want to like Lake Elmo Inn because it's an institution with many devoted followers. BUT, the food is just OK. The menu selections sound enticing but the reality is inconsistent: Over -sauced, gummy potatoes, limp vegetables, meats lack seasoning other than salt, etc. I expected better execution, especially for the price.

Great food, but the most expensive place I've been to this year

I went for the lunch buffet many years ago on a business trip. It was one of the best buffets I've ever experienced.

Food is good, service is good, but you do not get what you pay for 2 pot pies and 2 cups of soup. Was $70 plus tip. My 3 stars for the food was based on ratio. How much you pay- to how much you get. Food quality was 3.5 stars.

Little disappointed in comparison of what it used to be when I went there in the past, on our last visit, the vegetable of the day was glazed carrots when it came out they were the little baby carrots that come in the bag from the grocery store. Second off I got charged four dollars for a soda water out of the gun??? We ordered a bowl of French onion soup so we could split it instead of the cup, but it was the tiniest bowl and when I asked for a bowl instead of the cup, she said it was a bowl, lol Portions have seemed to get small, but I will say service is wonderful as always.

This restaurant is top notch! From the minute you walk in to the minute you leave you'll experience first class service, friendly smiles, and impeccable food. Apps included Reuben truffles and pot stickers. Both were ok. I had the braised beef with vegetable of the day, linguine and added a scallop. Beef was fork tender and scallop was to die for! Vegetable of the day was your average mixed veg and linguine was so-so; butter cheese sauce was broken and sort of gritty. Another party member had jumbo shrimp with red potatoes and upgraded to grilled asparagus. They were the biggest jumbo shrimp I've ever seen. Dish was given rave reviews. Last guest had the special of the night: blackened halibut with mixed veg and linguine. Halibut was perfectly cooked and very tasty. Dessert included their signature torte and white cake layered with strawberries and cream. Torte was fabulous. Unfortunately the cake was less than sub-par. Overall, this place is a hidden gem in downtown Lake Elmo. Highly recommend. Atmosphere is elegant and classy.

I love this place for classic style in a roomy space, good food and service. It is very traditional and that is why feels reliable; this is a place you want to return again. Besides, they have my favourite French onion soup.

This was my first time here the food and atmosphere were great but our server was not so great the table next to us got great service and ours felt like very neglected not sure what was going on there. But overall it is a great place to eat will try it again and maybe the service will catch up and improve the overall experience.

This was a great outing. We took our brother and sister-in-law to lunch to celebrate his 92nd birthday. Our delightfully spunky waitress immediately suggested we start the celebration off with champagne! She provided a nonalcoholic variety to our guests because they don't imbibe. It was such a nice start to a lovely meal, everything was delicious.
