“Went in for my first time today, and the people working there were so nice despite me coming in 20 minutes until close. The man working there gave me such generous amounts of food for a great price, given that the food is vegan and freshly made. The cauliflower wings are amazing, and the fries and burger were even better! I am definitely returning to support this underrated black-owned business ☺️“

“Food was good and well priced. I got the lamb tagine while wife got the beef tagine. To me personally it could use more salt, they have salt packets so you can add if you need to. The cold salads was very yummy too. I just have to say the chef/ owner there was exceptional. He was super nice and kind. Service was great.“

“You can get a delicious veggie burger or the same burger with a beef patty. We had the fries, brussel sprouts, french onion burger and the “philly cheese steak” made with mushrooms and it was ALL delicious! Owners were great and they even treated us to a pie for Pi day on 3/14!!! Great and unique wine list was also fun. Prices were great and tip was included!“

Soup for You Free Café Soup •
2511 E Franklin Ave, Minneapolis

“I've had the Corn Potato Cheese, Tuscan White Bean and one other, but want to go on a day they are serving the Mulligatawny or Cuban Black Bean. I'm not much of a soup or vegetable person, but am impressed by the taste, robustness, and freshness of the soups. This is my new favorite place for lunch (11-1pm, M-F only). It's casual, but service is good, they bring the soup out to your table, come around to refill water, ask how your experience was on the way out, and are very polite. It's a little hard to find, and runs towards an eclectic clientele. Price is very, very, very reasonable. Well, actually it's free. It's a soup kitchen. And while it's in a church basement, and there's lots of Lutheran ladies helping out, it is not your mother's soup kitchen. Their thing seems to be about making a space for everyone, including foodies and people without money. There's a donation bowl, and I think sometimes you can buy quart jars to go for $9, and they also do some kind of soup "food share" you can buy into. Depending on the day, according to the facebook page they also have made French Provencal Mushroom Barley; Madrid Lentil; Cuban Black Bean; Russian Cabbage Borscht; Mulligatawny; and Cream of Potato with fresh dill, sweet onions caramelized in butter, sour cream and chives. It's in Bethany Lutheran Church.“

“It’s been awhile since I visited Hard Times (City Pages was still around when I last went), and I realized I forgot to write a review, so here we are…Hard Times has a great vibe. Feels rooted in community and is unpretentious and radical. The food was pretty good, but the quality isn’t on par with Modern Times or Seward Cafe in my opinion. I appreciate the vegetarian/vegan options.“

“The cafe is back! The full breakfast and brunch menu has returned. The biscuits and gravy (vegan or not) are excellent. Enormous fluffy pancakes and scrambles are also stars of the menu. Full range of espresso drinks and creative herbal tea blends. If you are uncomfortable with the anarchist/ antifa scene... You won't like Seward Cafe.“

“Food is great- cocktails are great and the room/location are beautiful! Staff is kind and attentive. The food and drinks are a little pricey for brunch. I encourage the powers that be to generate a few cocktail options that are $14 or less, put the coffee in bigger cups/ provide more of it, and to add a piece of toast to the mushroom/gruyere omelet order.“

“Today I had the shroomami. It was absolutely delicious, I enjoyed the kale and the salad dressing that was used. The mix and the flavor was absolutely delicious. I was really impressed with it. I also got a lemonade which was okay. It wasn't the best but it did go well with the salad. Overall, I do recommend this place. It's easy and quick to get food, especially for lunch.“

“I visited spicy feta for the first time today and I had an amazing experience. Although I was only taking-out, I had an opportunity to talk and look over the menu with an employee, explaining what each item was and what it had on it. I never eaten here before so I didn’t know what to expect, but both the people I talked to were extremely helpful. I ended up getting the Naughty Greek wrap with a side of fries. It was almost a Mediterranean burrito style wrap, the chicken, Shawarma was super juicy and flavorful, and it paired well with the veggies, feta, and Taziki. The only thing I didn’t like about my wrap is I asked for no olives and there was olives, however it was still delicious. The fries are light and airy, but super crispy and seasoned perfectly with a savory salty spice blend. One of the people I talk to let me sample out their lemonades, and help me decide which one I wanted. They were very patient and helpful and I will returning back soon.“
