My visit to Poppy's Donuts in Independence left me with mixed feelings. While the service wasn't particularly remarkable, the donuts themselves were tasty and fresh, which is always a plus. One aspect that gave me pause was their cash-only policy. In an increasingly digital world, it can be inconvenient to not have other payment options available.Additionally, there seems to be uncertainty surrounding their future. It's unclear whether they will reopen or not, which leaves potential customers in a state of limbo.Overall, while Poppy's Donuts offers a satisfactory donut experience, the lack of clarity about their future operations is a significant drawback. If they do reopen, I hope they consider expanding their payment options to better accommodate their customers' needs.

I've been going to this place for years and it is always consistent and incredible! Don't be disuaded by the strange ambiance, as they seem to have been pretty short staffed since Covid and no longer have a seating area, the donuts are as good as it gets. Perfectly fried and with good flavor, their donuts are worth the calories every time. My personal favorite are the old fashioned, donut holes, and the maple cinnamon rolls. Sadly I think they are really struggling with staffing and are often closed, the family that runs it has always been incredibly nice and especially so to their regulars. This is definitely a local business that deserves some love and support, and I wish I could do more for it myself. Check it out!

This place is a major childhood memory for me. My grand parents used to take me here all the time and I absolutely love the donuts!I went back after years and they were just as good as ever and I had an amazing conversation with the man and lady running it.Now that I'm back in the area again, I would've loved to stop in. It's a shame to see that they're temporarily closed.

A coworker recommended Poppy's Donuts. I'm all about private owned food jointsI had to try them and they didn't disappoint. They have delicious cinnamon rolls as well. I tried the blueberry cake glazed donuts, which I love. They were wonderful. Im going back soon for more. I highly recommend Poppy's if you love donuts

Love this place. I went today and was sad they were closed but remembered they usually do a vacationing early August and close for a week or so. Love seeing small businesses and supporting them. The donuts are yummy too.

Hours on door say 4am-2pm but are never open went at 6am doors are locked. This happens all the time. When they are open lady is not a people person at all.. don't know if I will ever wake up early on a Saturday morning to just go get donuts from there again. When their doors are open the glazed donuts are delicious!

They must be closed. This is the second time I came here when their hours showed open.

3 strikes you're out. just now went and got donuts for 7 grandchildren & myself ; i have always lived in Independence and come here. bought glazed donuts which were ok; apple fritter was OLD and i called to ask, was assured they don't serve day old donuts. 3rd rotten experience in a row - will now go anywhere else !

Only went by one time. Looks like someone homeless lives in there. Cash only. I had a card. Suspect at best. Save your money for a place that at least takes cards and cares about their appearance. Wow.

Usually I nice friendly place, but the rude heavyset lady was just awful. Not pleasant to talk to and wouldn't tell me her name. Won't go back if I see her car there. But the donuts are great ?

My husband went there for me this morning and told me how nasty the place was and the lady behind the counter was rude and very unfriendly! Its been years since we bought donuts there and they ARE NOT SAME!We will scratch this one off my bucket list and dump in my "garbage" list. No Fluff filled at all!

Donuts were amazing, I had a cherry filled and the cherry flavor was intense, the donut not overly sweet or greasy...perfect!The inside could use some straightening, no real place to sit but the unlike some of the other reviews, our server was really nice and outgoing. We felt very welcomed.

I haven't visited Poppys in years but I decided to make the drive over there this weekend because donuts sounded good to everyone and I remembered how good they were. I pulled up to the front and thought they might be closed because there were piles of clutter everywhere in the old eat in area. The sign said open so I went in. The lady at the counter didn't seem to friendly. I asked her a few questions and got terse answers (felt as if I must be bothering her) so I quickly ordered a half dozen glazed and 2 specialty donuts. This was a little over 13 dollars. A little steep i think but donuts are getting really expensive everywhere. The donuts were good though. If I lived closer I'd go back but I probably won't drive clear across town for them again.
