“Stumbled upon this place while waiting for a haircut and couldn't have been more pleasantly surprised! SUCH a cute place with loads of STL history. I ordered a half fig, ham, & gouda grilled cheese and a side Stutz salad. The service was quick and friendly, despite the full house on a Saturday afternoon lunch hour. The grilled cheese was PERFECTION: the fig was a gentle enough sweetness that balanced out the gouda and ham wonderfully. The Stutz salad--named after one of the cars from this place's history!--was a delightful spring treat, with baby mandarin orange slices, homemade poppyseed dressing, and fresh goat cheese. I often forget how MUCH I love goat cheese when it's paired properly! What a great spot and what a great meal.“

“I heard Jeni being interviewed on a major foodie podcast a couple years ago and absolutely loved the way she articulated her desire for off-the-wall flavors. She wasn't afraid to try new things. Her creativity, profound scientific approach to flavor components, and endless obsession with creating better flavor combinations all come together in pure harmony when you try her ice creams. “This is the face of a VERY happy birthday boy. The driver was professional, and very kind to the children. Multiple people around the area were excited to see the ice cream truck too. He did our party and other sales. How he managed that I will never know. Because the kids were coming in left and right. I was excited that this business had sonic the hedgehog ice cream. But they exceeded my expectation on the variety of treats. We purchased bracelets for our party guests so the driver could know they were with the party. It worked out beautifully. I was actually able to purchase extra sonic the hedgehog ice creams and snocones! I will definitely be using them in the future. Great reasonable price and so friendly.“

They are known for their homemade ice cream and for selling breakfast all day during their operation hours (as of this review, they are closed on Sundays and Mondays) On the day I went it was too hot for me to get ice cream as a togo item so I got :Breakfast plate with salmon Croquet 3.5/ 5: 2 nice sized patties that were well seasoned ( too well season for me but I can see how the majority of their customer base would like them this way.Egg over easy 3/5 good but the yolks wasn't running like it supposed to bePotatoes 5/5 smothered potatoes; best ever I had from a restaurant hands down Wheat toast; 3/5 I would have prefer white bread. Their macarons aren't dry but they don't pack a whole lot of flavor. The coffee was okay, even though they had a ton of flavors to choose from, it seemed like it was lacking something (probably the excessive amount of sugar I'm used to, haha.) My go to is the camerones al diablo (well, currently, anyways) and I have decided that between the quesadilla and the torta, the torta wins. It's the grilled bread with crispy cheese edges and idk how they do it but this is a sandwich that keeps me coming back for more.I've been coming to this place formerly known to myself and others affectionately as The Taco Stand for over a couple decades! It seriously used to be a one room shack on the corner of California and Cherokee. Now the enlarged building multiplies its size by at least 10! The outdoor patio on the corner is larger than the whole joint started out.It's now formatted so you order and seat yourself, which works out well as far as I can tell. And takeout is just as easy. IT DOES GET BUSY, so if you suspect you're in a time crunch you could always go to another spot nearby and grab Mexican at a (potentially) less busy spot.ALL of the Mexican restaurants on Cherokee have great items on their menus and and it's worth exploring all of them to see what you like where. But basically La Vallesana is my go-to when I'm not being particular and maybe want to go be anonymous somewhere.The last thing I have to say about La Vallesana is that you might want to think about dessert first, so you can save room. When you enter, all the house made ice cream and aguas frescas like horchata are also not to be overlooked. Plan ahead.Saturdays seem to be busiest and I am here on a Tuesday after lunch rush, and there's still a steady flow of customers. 5 stars out of 5 here.
