“Super cute diner. My bf and I had breakfast here on a Sunday and we were lucky we got a table right away, there were people waiting when we left. I had sausage gravy and biscuits and my bf had pancakes, eggs, hash browns. Everything was delicious. We will be back.“
“It's a great place to go and have breakfast. The place is small and always packed. Even when they are busy, the wait hasn't been more than 20 minutes. The food is always good and it's very affordable. I have yet to be disappointed.“
“Great food and fast, kind and friendly service define this nostalgic gem in downtown St. Louis! The original home of the Slinger, a local favorite, that you have to experience, as once you do, you’ll understand why and be back for more. The quality of the food is only topped by the great service you receive from the three sisters who work harmoniously together, with just a little “attitude” to make it fun. It’s easy to understand this place has been in operation for 120 years, since 1904. Be sure to visit next time you’re downtown or stop in early before a day game during baseball season, as they are only open for breakfast and lunch.“
“Stepping into The Buttery Diner was like stepping back in time, with its classic diner décor and friendly staff. The aroma of coffee and sizzling food filled the air, whetting my appetite for the pork chop meal I'd come for.My order arrived promptly, presented on a vintage diner plate. The centerpiece was a bone-in pork chop, cooked to a perfect golden brown, with grill marks that whispered of deliciousness. As I cut into it, the juices ran clear, revealing a juicy and tender interior. The seasoning was simple, allowing the natural flavors of the pork to shine through. Each bite was a symphony of meaty goodness, perfectly balanced with the mild savory notes.Accompanying the pork were two fluffy mashed potatoes, creamy and buttery without being overwhelming. The green beans were fresh and crisp, seasoned with just the right amount of salt and pepper. They provided a welcome counterpoint to the richness of the pork and potatoes. No diner experience is complete without dessert, and I opted for a classic slice of apple pie. The crust was flaky and buttery, encasing a warm and gooey apple filling that was bursting with flavor. A scoop of vanilla ice cream on top added the perfect touch of sweet creaminess.Throughout my meal, the service was attentive and friendly. My server was always there to refill my water and answer any questions I had, making me feel welcome and comfortable.Overall, The Buttery Diner was a delightful experience. The food was delicious, the service was excellent, and the atmosphere was charming. I left feeling satisfied and happy, and I would definitely recommend it to anyone looking for a classic diner experience with a modern twist.“
“It's small, but don't let that dissuade you. The food was great (could have eaten 3 plates of the buscits and gravy), the staff friendly, and the number of locals who came in to grab orders to go showed me it was a great choice to eat here.“
“Staff is always nice and friendly. Food is what you'd expect from a small diner. Simple but great burgers, pancakes are bomb, prices are super reasonable. Perfect for a cheap but tasty meal. Even better if you're nursing a hangover “
“This is the only classic diner, featuring barstool counter seating you will find anywhere close to the area, and it delivers exactly what you would expect - entertainment from skilled short order cooks, decent hot coffee, efficient and friendly service, and scrumptious food. What I ate: - eggs, sausage, hashbrowns, toast: (4/5) Very tasty! Crispy, hot hashbrowns. Perfectly cooked over easy eggs, decent sausage. Toast made for jam. - pancake: (4/5) hot, fluffy and just what you would expect! Check them out!“
“Loved the biscuits and gravy and the cheese omelette with bacon. The amount of bacon was amazing! We sat a listened to a long timer educate a fellow employee on the best nights to work for tips. Between the food and service, we had a great date night. We will definitely be back as this is the best Courtesy Diner in St Louis. Don’t miss out on stopping here, you won’t be disappointed.Vegetarian options: It can be as vegetarian as you want.“
“Born and raised in Belen, NM (although I now reside in Minnesota), I dream of New Mexican food on a daily basis. While visiting St Louis, MO with my family we found this gem of a diner. I had the huevos rancheros (Christmas) and it was amazing. Our server, Nicole, was kind and attentive and our food came out in good time! The owner was seating people as well as cleaning tables as needed. The quirky decor totally made me feel like I was back home in New Mexico! I would definitely recommend this place!“
