My catfish and shrimp platter was extremely good with big portions (including of the two delicious sides I picked: greens and stewed cabbage) for a very reasonable price. Very polite folks who took my order. Don't expect linen tablecloths and fancy decor--that's just not the kind of place this is. For the price and type of order-at-the-counter place that it is, I almost gave it five stars: my only hesitancy is that they don't say on the menus or have it posted anywhere where the catfish and shrimp came from--I have a feeling it's probably not the U.S. / Mississippi / Gulf Coast (which probably contributed to the low prices). If I find out where their seafood comes from I'll be happy to write another review and give them five stars (comparing them to similar price and ambiance restaurants).

Love their fried shrimp. Tbh it's better than triangle seafood! It's butterflied and much bigger! That with some good ole baked beans and potato salad!

If you are looking for quantity this is your place. Excellent service and a dessert selection like a cruise ship.

I have eaten here for about 20 years (at their old place and new place). This is the best food ever. I've had the shrimp and catfish too many times to remember. I live about 15 miles from Southern Seafood and go there every chance I have. Outstanding food and service!

great food and great prices. i had the fried catfish and a side of gumbo. i may have been expecting to much from the gumbo. it was tasty but i probably wouldn't reorder. if you are in hattiesburg this is a good option.

The food is hot and fresh and seasoned to my taste. I had the ground mullet plate. The fish was fried with a light batter. Side items cabbage was cooked to my flavor a little crunch not over cooked. Hush puppies are big and taste home made. The coleslaw was moist. Condiments are available for take out. Old fashioned sodas available. The prices are very budget friendly. They have oysters too.

The restaurant didn't have open hours posted on it's website (Facebook) but the hours listed in TripAdvisor were until 7 pm. We arrived at 5:15 and there was a line to the door. We got in line and waited 10 minutes only to be told they were out of all seafood except for 1 serving of fried shrimp. The food looked good and we might have tried them again on another visit to Hattiesburg, except for the fact that we went to another seafood restaurant that was out of this world good - so that's where we will go next time. I'm not posting the name in an attempt to be fair to Southern Seafood - but if you are interested just check my only other review for Hattiesburg.
