I was visiting from Chicago my brother and his wife during spring break and one of my nephews Tracy of Smith Barber College on Hosptial Dr in Jackson, MS took us to lunch, Wednesday, March 27, 2024, to Maxine’s Old Country Kitchen. The quaint restaurant is located on Macon St. Walking through the doors the ambience beckoned us in. We were greeted by beautiful wait staff serving everything you can imagine. Beef tips, smothered liver, hamburger steaks in gravy, turkey necks, baked and fried chicken, green beans, lima beans, black-eyed peas, cabbage, okra, rice and gravy, mashed potatoes, mac and cheese, turnip and collard greens, yams, corn muffin, sweet potato pie, cinnamon roll and peach cobbler. I can say the food was ON POINT! Very delicious and I did not add salt or pepper. Seasoned very well. We really enjoyed ourselves and had food to take home for dinner. Also, there was sweet tea, lemonade and kool-aid to drink. I pray GOD continue to bless your business. A hidden gem~

I'm new to Jackson I've been looking for a home cooked meal. I work at Walmart and the owner comes in there all the time so I decided to give his place a try and I must say IT'S A 10 star for me. I will most definitely be going back. I had the smothered bake chicken dinner with sweet peas rice and corn bread. It was delicious. The atmosphere is welcoming friendly server and she's very patient for the long line they have and they get you in and out.

The food was eye catching, but everything was nasty!! The squash were sweet, the cabbages were not done.. no flavor at all. This place disappointed me, because it was many elderly people in there, so u just knew it was good!! But not..

Lunch today was at a new spot for me. After watching the Soul Food documentary on Hulu, I decided to try Maxine's Old Country Kitchen. The staff working the line was so sweet and patient as I tried to make a decision. There were so many good looking sides that I went with a veggie plate and added one smoked wing. That Mac n cheese was heavenly. Oh man it was good. The Lima beans were flavroful, as were the collard greens. I didn't care for the boiled okra, as the dish lacked seasoning and the cornbread wasn't my favorite. I will still go back to get a plate as I love plate lunches where I can get home-style vegetables!Address is 1254 Macon St, right off of Lynch Street.

The liver and rice omg! Definitely want more. The corn and peach cobbler was delicious also….but those greens and cornbread wasn’t good at ALL!. Overall I will go back but the price was too high. I spent 17.00

Everything was wonderful. Good, down-home southern food that touches your SOUL!!! Featured on HuLu… they live up to the hype (that’s how I found them). I had the tetrazzini with black eyed peas and cabbage greens with cornbread. Their cornbread is amazing! Their tetrazzini is scrumptious, the peas were on point and the cabbage was delightful! Will be back tomorrow!!!

We took our nieces out to lunch there last year and the food was good. But the cost was OUTRAGEOUS!!! It was WAY too expensive. I keep the receipt in my wallet just to remind myself!
