I had not previously had BBQ in North Carolina. So I did my homework, both on styles and local restaurants (plus if they were open on a Monday evening). That led me to Midwood Smokehouse, and it was definitely the right choice for us. It was a great experience all-around, made even better by quality service and banter with our waiter, Tom. Drinks were a tough choice here (not in a bad way), and we did not immediately realize that there was a QR code on the menu to scan their whiskey pour menu. Since Monday was discounted cocktails night, we split our drink order between cocktails and pours. I was pleasantly surprised to see a less common bourbon, Jefferson's Ocean, available here at a reasonable price. Your food comes out quickly. Since we ordered dry meats (lean brisket and St. Louis dry rubbed ribs), we were given all the sauces from which to choose, which included the North Carolina regionals, their own, and a South Carolina spicy mustard. Honestly, the meats were so well prepared these were not necessary, but we tried every one of them anyway, and we enjoyed all of them. A couple of tips: (1) add a little salt to your collards, it will improve the flavor. (2) Try dipping your Hush Puppies in the South Carolina mustard. By the way, these were unquestionably the best Hush Puppies I've ever had - so many places in the Northeast need to cook them a tad more, thus they are more like Mush Puppies. This was a great first experience venturing into local "bbq territory."

The people who work here are so nice and accommodating and the food is great! Order online early for a party bc they run out of chicken bbq. We under ordered for a bday party and panicked. My husband went back to Midwood and they immediately whipped up some sides and more bbq for us to go despite a very busy night for them . Five stars!

We've been coming here religiously ever since we moved to Charlotte, and it's the first place we suggest when we have people visit. I've never had a bad meal here. The food is always delicious, and the Well-Fed platter is one of the best deals in town. The only complaint I have is that they are missing a southern staple: fried okra. That would make it an 11/10.

This was my first time at this location, I usually go to Central Ave. Everything was great, and I didn't notice any difference. The parking at this location us way better. This still remains my favorite barbecue place.

THIS is a barbecue joint! All of the reviews mentioning the burnt ends are absolutely correct; they are the star! But, this meal was more of a constellation with all of the stars on the plates. The jalapeno cheese sausages were nicely balanced between meat and seasonings, the sides were homey and fresh, and the hushpuppies were generously poured onto the plates. Oh and I can't forget mentioning the brisket! Coming from Texas, I was hopeful that these would deliver that same joy that the moist brisket from here would imitate some of my faves back home. Boy howdy did they! Perfection. The few, small cons I would have would be that the broccoli salad was just fine, and the ribs were "okay" in my opinion. HOWEVER, they have tons of rib options on different days, so I will withhold any serious judgement on those. (Plus ribs are very much a preference thing.) Overall, amazing waitstaff, comfortable setting, and just a good old-fashioned lunch.

Even though it was lunchtime at, it wasn't overly crowded. The hostess greeted me with a warm smile and seated me right away. My server, Curtis, was a lifesaver! He patiently helped me navigate the gluten-free menu, even double-checking ingredients with the kitchen for peace of mind. Thanks to his attentiveness, I was comfortable eating here (the roasted wings were fantastic!). Shoutout to JC too, who checked in to make sure everything was perfect. Great service all around!Dietary restrictions: Gluten Free/Friendly Menu available as well as an allergy menu. Cross contamination possible.

The location was great and the staff was nice. We decided to try it since we were I. The area and wanted local fare. We had the combo plate with ribs, brisket, pulled pork, fries, and Mac n cheese. The meats were smoked well and the brisket was very tender. When biting into the rib you could see the smoke ring and there was a little pull from the bone. The pulled pork was really moist and did really need sauce, but you will want to use their sauces as they were a solid complement to the meat. Oh, their cornbread is LEGIT. I had my doubts going in but when the skillet got to the table with the butter...it was warm, soft, and tasty. Hush puppies left something to be desired as they were a little too soft, almost undone. All in all it was a good experience on our excursion through Charlotte.

Nico, was first class to greet me and take care of my order! This is a excellent location if you're at Freedom Park it's only about 5minutes away from the park. They give generous size portions for when you're hungry the most. Definitely have missed coming to this location!

Spent $75 for carryout. Ordered the “Pig Out” meal and a large banana pudding. Selected the brisket (moist cuts) and burnt ends. The burnt ends were fine, but the brisket was hard as a rock and dry!!! If this is considered a moist cut, I can only imagine what the lean cuts are like. I’ve ordered carryout from here before and this wasn’t a problem. I was going to let it slide, but a $75.19 too much to be disappointed with any portion of a meal.

Visiting NC and had to get some bbq! Highly recommend Midwood - meats were absolutely perfectly executed. Had burnt ends and ribs. Coleslaw was full of flavor. The mustard based bbq sauce was the clear winner here. Recommend the wings and get them "crispy"! Parking was challenging for a Friday. Service was amazing, and they had local breweries on draft.

Get the brisket and burnt ends. The ribs were okay. The sides were mediocre, but the strawberry margarita was great. The waitress was knowledgeable and accommodating.
