Great barbecue. I have not experienced North Carolina barbecue, but have had barbecue in several other states. I had the Gumbo, as recommended, and it was delicious! I also got a side of greens, smoked pork, hush puppies, and slaw. All of it was great with the slight exception of the smoked pork, which had a great flavor, but a tad dry. A little vinegar barbecue sauce and it was great.

Came here with 4 adults and a baby at 6pm on a Friday night. The staff were extremely accommodating when they couldn’t seat us straight away. Once we were seated we ordered the ribs, brisket, and bbq plates as well as the shrimp po boy and of course many sides. Everything was awesome, but the ribs were a standout, and we felt lucky to have snagged some since they ran out shortly after. Potato salad and coleslaw were so good. The Thai butternut squash side was a special that night and it was delicious. Cannot wait to go back!

Good food, and probably the best table service I've gotten in Durham! Our server was handling the bar, 2-3 other tables, and working on closing down for the evening but still had time to check on us frequently and refill our drinks etc.

Best bbq I’ve had in a long time. Great service with friendly people too. Brisket & brisket sauce so good! Only wish is for a bigger outdoor patio so we can bring our kids.

My wife and I stopped at Picnic for lunch after hiking in Duke Forest. We both got the barbeque plate and it was really good, and the sides too. Service was friendly and very quick. They have beer, wine and cocktails for drinks. I'm surprised I haven't stopped here before. It's close to Duke Forest and Eno River so I'm sure I'll be back again soon.

Couldn't have been happier with our first experience at this terrific little spot! I come to Durham from PA several times a year to visit my elderly parents at Croasdaile; we are always looking for new dining spots to try, and this one did not disappoint. My mother suffers from both cognitive and dietary issues, and our wonderful server couldn't have been more friendly, upbeat and accommodating. She brought my mom a special gluten targeted menu especially suited for her needs and patiently helping talk her through all the choices, then kept checking back to ensure all was well. The specials were amazing, (hot honey Brussels sprouts?? Smoked blueberry mezcal margarita?!?! Dang!) and oh wow, that brisket....I'll be dreaming about it until I can come back again for my next visit! Literally the most tender I've had in ages. Give this wonderful place a try and I'm betting you'll be back. I know I will!

Quality in general has declined since the pandemic. The fried chicken used to kill it and now it's just a letdown every time I order it.It won't fall off my radar, just not as good as it once was.

Came to Durham for work trip. Fantastic locally owned BBQ place, whole hog smoking, micro brews, love the food here. You won't go wrong eating here

Very friendly staff, food was good. I wasn't expecting red onion on my Fried Green Tomato BLT because it doesnt mention onion on it in the menu, it was still good but I dont prefer a lot of onion so I had to take some off. No sauce on the pulled bbq that we could tell. Was a bit dry by itself. The seasonal squash side was amazing.

We come here all the time after a hike and it always hits the spot. Definitely the best bbq spot in Durham by far!!! Very dog friendly, quick and lovely service, and there isn't one dish that isn't good. My personal favorite is the beef brisket plate! Highly recommend.

Ambiance and cleanliness was the best part of this place. The fried oysters and banana pudding were good. However $12 for 3 oysters and $6 for a very small portion of pudding is tough to root for.The bbq was well below average. Brisket was very dry and portion was small. Pork was flavorless and seemed old. Bbq sauce tasted like ketchup.Sides were average. Nothing memorable.Charged extra for asking for half lemonade and half water instead of a juice box on the kids meal.Service, had to ask for stuff that one would deem normal with bbq and hush puppies. Drinks weren't refilled once.Fun place to hang out. Disappointed w the food

I and my client came in the evening. We were greeted immediately. Friendly staff. I have to mention Carter who was our waiter. He has a bright smile and was very attentive. Carter came to our table plenty of times to make sure we were good! After all of that he said no pressure about the tip. ❤️ He deserves recognition. ?
