“We stopped at the Smithfield Outback on our way home to SC. Tatiana was our waitress. Shen. was wonderful - friendly, attentive and upbeat., She gave us advice when we had questions, checked back several times to see how we were doing and if we needed anything, and made our visit truly enjoyable.”

“Great views of the airport tarmac and just the outside with large windows. Inside and outside seating was great!! We had a group of 8. Nacho appetizer was phenomenal and my favorite of all I tried. Spinach and artichoke was good but a little bland (a little more seasoning and it could be spot on). Several got salads that they all liked. Several got quesadillas and loved them. One got brisket which was good but cut too thick which made it difficult to bite. I got smoked chicken breast which I did not finish. It was over cooked and very dry. The chicken did have a good smoke flavor that was not over powering. The cheese in my Mac n cheese curdled so was not my fav side. You can't go wrong for the atmosphere. Even though there were a few things I didn't like I will still try again.”

“Recently, my family and I were in Smithfield for about 5 weeks and The Gilded Pear was recommended and became a second home to us for lunch and the greatest coffee. It was the best recommendation ever! The ladies who waited on us, the cook, the staff, were so helpful and friendly. They knew we were from out of town and made us feel so at home and welcome every day. The lunches we had were so good and the baked potato salad so yummy, I sometimes just ordered that; the pumpkin and cinnamon muffins finished it off. Gilded Pear, thank you all!!!”

I have to say this will be a go to spot for us. Our server was pleasant, and the food was amazing. I love Indian food and the masala and shrimp were some of the best we've had. “This is our favorite Mexican restaurant. The food has always been amazing. My wife tried there taco salad last night. It looked more like cream of mushroom soup. Something went wrong with the portions of ingredients. We showed our waitress. She said “you stirred it to much” The manager came over without us complaining to her and apologized and said she was embarrassed. She heavily discounted the bill to try to make things right. We appreciate that and will definitely return. Our waitress Brenda seemed to insinuate we just wanted free food and drinks. Even though I handed her a 20% cash tip for the un discounted check amount. And told her the food wasn’t her fault. Everything else was great as usual. And the manager made every effort to insure a positive experience. El Barzon is a great place to eat. We highly recommend it.”

It is a small cafe. It has a wall menu, a selection of deli style foods are offered with some daily specials. You can sit-in or take out. They have the traditional menu of tacos, carnitas, beans, rice, salsas, baked chicken, Aguas Frescas. After that it's more homestyle cooking like Mexican grandma use to make. I tried out the Chicaronnes en Salas for the 1st time. It was delicious ? I had the Frijoles Charro instead of the refried beans. They were cooked with cilantro, onions, jalapeños to a creamy texture, excellent taste. These are very sweet and sincere people the two times I've been there. It's off the beaten path of mexican restaurant food but worth it.”

“Hidden gem! This place is a nonprofit located inside the medical mall of Smithfield across from the hospital. They use actual eggs on a grill to make breakfast sandwiches (not microwaved). They help people with accessibility by providing jobs and helping adults learn skills for independence. Very friendly staff, lovely baked goods and sandwiches.”

“For a Chinese strip mall joint, this place is actually 5 stars for appearance. I had to give a neutral 3 because it is still a strip mall eatery that is meant mostly for take out. I assume people do use the lobby at lunch time to escape the heat and enjoy a meal, but this is very school house cafeteria vibes.
