Beware - not your average grandma’s pie. This is a premium cost for a normal pepperoni pizza. I even called to find out if I had gotten a mixed up order and the person answering the phone (she was pleasant btw) noted “I know most places serve a square grandma’s, but ours is round. Nothing more disappointing than ordering a traditional style of pie, just to get a standard New York style pie pepperoni pie. (See pic)

Counter order, table service, small space with a couple of tables outside. Because I expected to pick up my own food from the counter I offered no tip at ordering. But the cashier did deliver our food to our table and very kindly interacted with us making sure everything was great, so I felt compelled to tip after we finished our meal, thus the high service rating. The cheese steak was tasty but a bit light on contents. The lasagna was tasty but with a surprisingly thin sauce. Atmosphere is quaint.

Scratching my head once again as I can’t understand why this place is highly rated.Tried it recently and found the pizza lacking in almost every respect. The crust in the middle was very thin and so soggy, the crust on the edge was as hard as a rock. Could not eat the edges they were so hard like a thick cracker. I guess I could save the crust, it may make a good fire starter or insulation. But not food.Minimal sauce, practically none. Pepperoni tasteless and thin. I really could not taste any pepperoni at all to be honest. Same with the sausage. In general I was very disappointed. I ordered 2 large pizzas and it came to $60. They are large, one large pizza can fed 3-4 people, but that’s too expensive for me, especially for the quality.I’ve had better chain restaurant pizza and for the price I’ll rather buy a good frozen pizza and skip this spot.I’ve had great pizza in Naples and Sicily, and the only thing Italian here is the name.Overpriced and underwhelmed.PS. We ordered 1 standard large pizza an one custom large pizza. The custom pizza drives the cost up even more.

Hit or miss unfortunately. Maybe the cook is different at times? Too much sauce. It was like tomato soup on pizza. Soggy soggy soggy. Had their pizza 3 times. First time was great. Second and third soggy over sauced pizza. Will try one more time. Hopefully they get it consistent and back to the way it should be.

Ordered a plain cheese pizza plus a Hawaiian pizza. I have lived in Raleigh for 12 years and sampled NY style pizzerias. I had serious doubts that Mario’s Pizzeria would even come close to being amongst the top 3 in the Raleigh area but I am happy to say that they most certainly do. Whenever I travel to NYC, the very 1st thing that I usually order is pizza. I just love NYC style pizza. The crust, the cheese, the sauce and the grease. Mario’s Pizza seems to really understand the NYC pizza formula because usually in NC the one ingredient they miss on is the crust. Mario’s crust is excellent; not too soft or mushy and not so hard and crunchy. We will be back quite often.

The food is great every time I come here. My personal favorites are the penne vodka with chicken and the seafood combo, but I've loved everything I've tried so far! The service is awesome as well.
