We came last night for a bachelorette party and it was AMAZING! Our server (I feel so bad cause we can’t remember his name) was so sweet and he did a great job! It was a great part of our night!

Saturday night some friends and I went to eat at Steam. Everything was fine until we all got our order... my friend ordered short ribs and his portion was comically small. It was only ONE PIECE. For a $32 plate there was barely any meat on his plate at all. We asked our waitresses if we could speak with the manager, which is when the real issue began. The manager was incredibly rude and condescending. He told us "sometimes we give one piece of meat, sometimes two pieces, sometimes three" which sounds ridiculous but anyway, he offered to cancel the order and put in a new order for my friend but the attitude was not necessary. We asked to speak with a different manager to complain about the rude manager (which is something we never do but felt it was necessary because of how absurd the whole situation was) we were told the other manager was in the back and would come speak with us soon and we never got to see him. Overall our experience was not great and I would not recommend this restaurant.

Went there to see the fireworks during Azelea festival yesterday to have diner with some friends. I ordered short ribs 30+ dollar and friends had shrimp and grits. When the food arrived it was 99% mash potatoes with sprouts and one tiny piece of short rib. I asked for the manager who came up and then told me that it should have at least two or three tiny pieces. I started laughing as you can't sell that as a meat dish I responded. I told him to take it of the bill as was offered and choose Salmon as that looked good. For my friends shrimp dish complain, it was correct that there were only 4 shrimps in there. X amount of lb per person he explained.... In short, it was an incredible sad experience for an upscale (price wise at least) restaurant. The manager for sure make it worse by seeming to be aggravating by the whole situation from the start. Unfortunately, the dish was send back before taking a picture.

Food was horribleMEAL COST OVER $100 for 2 people with 2 beers ....Very poorly managed restaurant . I've seen Denny's run better than this olace. Dinner was a terrible experience. Restaurant was empty at 7:30 on a Thursday. We waited 5-10 minutes to get our 12 ounce $7 domestic beers from a bottle. Bartender didn't seem to care about tables alcohol orders because people were sitting at the bar in the empty restaurant. Our server was new and untrained with no one helping her she forgot to bring us bread when we arrived so we sat drinking warm TAP WATER in a flask WITH NO ICE FOR 10 minutes. Now on to the food..... $36 for a small bowl of blackened pasta Which took 35 minutes to come out with over cooked blackened shrimp that chewed like rubber and the pasta sauce had no flavor at all. Like diluted flour mixed with water and cheese. The other dish was SHRIMO AND GRITS. CAME WITH 3 LARGE SHRIMP SO OVER COOKED. THEY SHRANK TO NITHING AND HAD RUBBER CONSTANCY. At no point during the evening was a manager visible or did a manager walk around to ask how our meal was???? EMBASSY SUITES SHIULD BE ASHAMED OF THIS RESTAURANT. it had a nice view but there were only 3-4 tables available with a view of the water. Other tables were closed off because no one was there DURING AZAELA FESTIVAL WILMINGTON BUSIEST TIME OF YEAR

If you would like overpriced seafood, sure. We came on valentines day and I tried my boyfriend's salmon. It had no flavor and seemed a bit undercooked, the mashed potatoes were bland. I got the seafood pasta and it was pretty good. But these are small portions for a big price.

This place is amazing. The food is outstanding and the service is the best. I have celiac and the wait staff and bartenders check and double checked everything to make sure what I ordered was safe. It was one of the first times in a long time that I have gone to a restaurant and not be worried about cross contamination. Thank you steam staff for all you do. Yall rock!!!

Restaurant week. Fried oyster appetisers came heavily battered. No taste of oyster. Disappointing. Chose mahi with risotto, after ordered waitrr returned to say salmon had been substituted. Went with it. Food arrived & there was a large unidentifiable, charred chunk on the plate. We could not cut through it , had no idea what it was. Asked the waiter, he took it to kitchen & came back to say it was fennel. I know what fennel is - this bore no resemblance & was inedible anyway. Our waiter bought our a small plate of green beans, which actually were good. Mushroom/Pasta (paparadelle) dish was bland, lacked any flavour except for a few hazelnuts. Bread pudding was the best thing we had. Sauce was mascarpone, & thats all we could taste. Maybe restaurant week is not a good example of the food usually served.....

Steam is a beautiful restaurant overlooking the Cape Fear river. Our server was pleasant and checked on us regularly. However there was nothing special about the food. The black bass was average at best. No special sauce to enrich the flavor. It tasted like something you might get at a diner that was trying to be gourmet. The rizzotto was not rich and full of flavor like i'm used to getting at finer restaurants. I don't usually write a review but it is a shame that a beautiful restaurant like this doesn't have food to match the ambience. Maybe it was just an off night.

Lovely location on the Cape Fear River with lots of windows to enjoy the sunset. The service was good, thought the server could have been a little more knowledgeable of ingredients, she was pleasant, efficient and took care of a kitchen oversight immediately. I think the restaurant should note the prices of their specialty cocktails. I was surprised to find that my choice cost $16. I would highly recommend the Wilmington oysters, very nice combination and presentation. The corn and crab chowder, while more of a soup consistency, tasted very good and had lots of crab too. I would happily return.

We were going to a Symphony at the Wilson Center and decided to try the steam restaurant due to its proximity. They offered a theater menu that was perfect and reasonable. Our server was A tentative But not too much. I had the papardalle vegetable dish while my husband got the salmon entree. All was delicious including the warm biscuits and butter. We will return!

Dining area is spacious, open and cool/modern vibe with a nice view of the river. We went pre-concert, and appreciated the attentive but not rushed service. Food is okay, nothing special (we all ended up with salads, mine with shrimp, which was overcooked as grilled shrimp usually is...) Bar service was a little slow. Stick to the basics on the menu and you'll have a pleasant dining experience.
